I agree that UCF deserves a move to The Big East based on what they've built. But if you were basing the move on media market, or "cachet", I would argue that South Florida trumps Central Florida. Thats all.
I think we give too much credit for us moving up to the TV market. We may be in a great TV market but unless we can command that market, it does not add the necessary value to our chances. We cannot get a huge amount of fans to attend our games so why do we think we can get a huge amount of fans to dominate the TV market?
If FAU was playing a Big East game in our market and they were also showing a UF, FSU or Miami game in our market, the audience would not watch us (right now). We would not dominate our own market, thereby reducing the value of that market.
Don't assume just because we are in an important market, that we are the leader in that market.
…but don't get me wrong, I think we can eventually overcome this. Thank goodness we are not FIU. They have UM across town. That would be like us having UF or FSU on the other side of Boca. How in the world would we realistically overcome that?

UCF has a pretty strong fan base and a lot more alums than FAU they would do well in the Big East

I disagree! If we were to move up to the Big East we would do great. Think back to the USF game 2 years ago—sold out! Think about West Virginia or any of the North Eastern Teams having the chance to come down to South Florida to fill our stadium (vacation in Boca Raton) especially in the winter. Think about all of the Big East schools playing FAU watching their games on TV. All of the Big East teams would love to expose their teams in the South Florida market again.
FAU fans would grow exponentially by joining the Big East. The Sun Belt will only hold our program back…..We need this and our Marketing efforts need to be pushing for this!

Re: Big East conference expansion mtg.
I would love to get the jump USF did but I do admit CUSA is more likely. But honestly, ANYTHING in the FBS level is better that the Belt! No one anywhere can make any argument different, the Belt is the bottom rung at least until the WAC "expands" by ading a bunch of FCS teams to survive or die. They got another years reprieve by holding Boise and Nevada for next yera. But 2012 will be very interesting to se what the WAC looks like. We all know Hawaii and La. Tech already want out as well.
If CUSA loses Houston, they could try to add La. Tech to replace them (but do you want to replace the Houston media market with Ruston, LA (where???) or S. Florida. To me, again, no debate needed if I am running the conference and want to pay the bills.

It was more of a right place at the right time with USF. It had nothing to do with how good, bad or average they were.
My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

I think Villanova and UCF have a good chance but I think USF would fight tooth and nail to keep UCF out question is would they then go after FIU, FAU or a different C-USA school…TCU has a small chance but I think its unlikely.
From what I read. Nova and UCF are the top two candidates. While USF will hate on UCF, it makes sense to the Big East to have them a travel partners. The Big East won't really consider TCU and Houston are longshots, unless they both are on board to make the jump.
The Big East isn't going to offer any school from the Belt an invitation. If C-USA loses only one team to the Big East. I think C-USA will consider Troy, MTSU and FAU.
