Bigger problems than coaching

The score against USF is to be expected. I mean, come on, we have an inexperienced O-line going against a seasoned BCS defense here. Of course we can't run the ball, of course we get sacked repeatedly, of course we can't make big plays because there isn't time. The coaches should have gotten this O-line more time together before now. It's inexcusable to have an entirely new O-line in any year - absolutely inexcusable. And if this is a cyclic thing, we're due for s*** seasons every couple of years. The coaching staff needs to pay special attention to this because an inexperienced O-line will take down an entire season.

We're just not going to be very good this year. Look at our starters. WR - Jean is amazing, so he gets double teamed. That leaves you open Holley, who hasn't had a reception longer than 15 yards, and Housler, who has dropped or bobbled so many balls that he single-handedly kills drives. Did he have a great game against MSU? Sure, so why the hell can't he do it against UNT? We can't trust him. Two of our three receivers are questionable as "threats." At the same time, TE Darian Williams has not been as prolific in games as he has in practice, so it makes sense to go to Housler over Williams and that's part of the problem.

And think about this: Lester Jean is having a great season because of explosive speed. He had to go to the FAU track coach in the offseason to work on his mechanics and speed. That made him a better player. Right now, Jared Allen is our Wide Receivers Coach. It's fantastic for him because he's one of our own and we're giving him an opportunity he probably wouldn't get anywhere else on the path towards a (head?) coaching career. At the same time, what does Jared Allen know about mechanics and speed? He just knows routes and how QBs think. Meanwhile Darryl Jackson, who is our old WR coach, has transitioned to QB coach. So we have a WR coach mentoring our QBs and a QB mentoring our WRs. Why muddle the expertise?

The stadium means a lot to us not just for recruiting. Hopefully the fanbase can swell and the revenue will be such that we can hire a dedicated coach for each position. But right now we're headed for a 2-10 or 3-9 season. If we can't get it together, our stadium is not going to come close to selling out next year.
