BUY YOUR TICKETS thru FAU if you are going...

I'm not trying to upset anyone or sound rude but I'd rather spend my $35 and put it towards the band getting to the game. It's a very nice gesture having the Boys/Girls clubs from MI going to the game but they're going to be rooting for CMU. I'd rather give my money to the band and put it towards a flight or a hotel room for them. They work hard all year and what's a college football game without the band?

Agreed…

Agreed, but is it not all related?  Doesn't the revenue from the ticket sales all go to fund the trip, including the band and dance team?

I'm not really sure. Does anyone in the band have an answer? Is there someone to contact that we can maybe donate $35 or so to get the band there

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

I was under the impression that the ticket goes to some kid or military guy but the money goes to the school (band, etc) so its a double play i a sense.  If they send a letter with it saying its from Florida Atlantic University MAYBE they will root for us…Seems like there would be more Michigan or State fans than genuine CMU fans so maybe they can be swayed to root for our story.

It's going to be a CMU home game anyway, so what difference does it make who the people our tickets are donated to root for?  So long as the money goes toward helping FAU I'm OK with it.

That could be, but wouldn't the band need tickets to get in also?

The band usually doesn't need tickets to get into a game. But maybe a bowl game is different?

Either way, the expense isn't the ticket. The expense is the $135 a night for the hotel and the 50+ plane tickets PLUS extra baggage fees to carry the tubas, etc. on board.

Unless…. the band can fly separate than their equipment and put the instruments on the team plane?

Regardless, the band needs to be there; but I do think your $35 Jab would be better spent on a ticket to get FAU's ticket allotment and payout higher.

Smitty I do wanna help but I would prefer to send the band to the game first. If that's not possible then I'd donate a ticket

Just to clarify:

The question is whether FAU will use the ticket money to send them or if someone could designate thier monies to fund the band (directly) if nothing is planned currently…

ahhhh 10-4 on that.

I spoke with the FAU Ticket Office. They said that all money from ticket sales will go to FAU to help with expenses. Whether or not enough tickets are bought to pay for the cheer, dance, band, etc. depends on how many tickets are bought.

On a side note: It's really expensive to do this kind of stuff. TexasMonthly magazine pulled the numbers for the Texas v. Iowa State game last year. And ya know what… I'm not a forensic accountant, nor do I know what FAU athletics spends, but this sounds pretty on-the-money to use as an estimate…

"The day started with a bus ride to the airport on Friday morning. Chartered buses for the round-trip ran $14,419. The Continental jet carrying the team, coaching staff, and trainers cost $41,254. Once on the ground, the team checked into the West Des Moines Marriott, a three-and-a-half-star hotel, where the bill for the night was $29,460. That included the hotel’s grand ballroom, where the players were fed on Friday night and Saturday morning for $5,302.

That is just for the football team. On Saturday morning another chartered Continental jet took off for Iowa, this one carrying the band and the cheerleaders. The cost for the round-trip flight was $31,000. This group needed buses and food too, which added up to $9,580. After the game, both jets headed back to Austin. By the time their chartered buses arrived on campus, the entire group had spent exactly $140,248 in a little more than 24 hours."

Now add about $100,000 to that for two or three extra nights in a hotel and welcome to Detroit.

Again, those aren't FAU's numbers, this is my hypothesizing.
