Can 6-6 get us in a Bowl?

but apparently ESPN says i am wrong and so i apologize seminOWL for the hard time

NCAA College Football BCS Bowl Projections - Preseason - ESPN

haha, my friend sent me this.  To tell you the truth, I think ESPN is being a bit liberal in FAU's favor here…. I really think that Arkansas State gets the 2nd bid and the 3rd bid goes to either the winner of ULL/MTSU or the winner of FAU/FIU….and in that case I think geography may play a role in deciding that its the winner of ULL/MTSU over a Florida team that may not travel as well.

Thank you ESPN for backing me up I guess, but I would be VERY surprised if they were right.

You are probably right about geography, but let's say it is between ULL and us.  We beat the tar out of them.  We would have gone 5-1 down the stretch to become eligible while they have been stumbling toward the finish.  We have the Schnellenberger name in our factor.  Plus there is no proof that any SBC team is going to travel particuarly well.  Troy will, but they have pretty consistent attendance and have known for a while that they are going to a bowl.  If these 6-6 teams sneak into a bowl, is ASU(from the looks of it on TV, they had about 8-10K at our game) really going to bring significantly more fans then we would?  Would MTSU(they announced 14K at their game on Saturday, but I'm sure there were less then that in the stands)?  I'm not saying we are any more deserving to go then MTSU or ASU(they did beat us afterall….we would be more deserving over ULL, however), but I would like to think that a bowl committee would at least take a serious look at the whole picture and not just say "this team is closer and may sell more tickets."

Anyway, this is all talk unless we beat FIU.

GO OWLS!

We have a bowl…

THE SHULA BOWL!

So let's beat the crap out of FIU and just see what happens.

How current are these predictions? Maybe this was before we lost on Saturday

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Sports Projections has us going to the NO Bowl… with Troy passing to go to a better bowl (which i still don't see happening)

i know alot of are are saying that asu might get choosen over us beacuse of location but i was wondering does espn have any say it it becuase i beleive we would provide better tv ratings with a larger market bigger names like HS and Rusty Smith most likely the the known name in the Sun-Blet we could get chossen over an asu team

bingo… your QUESTION, is actually a very good observation, in and of itself

ESPN (The Disney Company, specifically) owns (not just simply airs it on TV) the PapaJohns.com Bowl and the St. Petersburg Bowl (though the St. Pete Bowl looks lost as far as Belt teams are concerned)…

what that means, i am not exactly sure… there are positives (howard, bigger market, florida, bowl champs the year before) and negatives (minuscule  fan support, terrible traveling, low history, terrible out-of-region interest) both in being FAU… so we'll have to see what ESPN does in concern to the bowl invite, and NOT necessarily ONLY the bowl committee

Re: Can 6-6 get us in a Bowl?

Ok so lets say they put the question to us.

Considering how we played this year….do we actually want a bowl game? Is it worthwhile to go and likely lose or should we just hope for a win against FIU and be done with it.  Obviously it is Howard's bowl record on the line…maybe the team comes to play, maybe not.

The answer is YES!  You always want the Bowl game and every thing that comes with it.  Even if we were to lose the game, you still get the national exposure and extra practice time.

While I know it doesn't matter to anyone, don't you think ASU should be asked before FAU because, you know, they beat FAU?  I know it sucks to have to stay home, but the invites should go to the winning teams.  FAU sits behind ASU simply because of last weekend's game.  ULL would be the team FAU would have a right to push out if ULL loses to Middle Tenn.  Otherwise, FAU is in the middle of the line with more deserving teams ahead of them.  Not that that means anything to anyone.
