Football and basketball coaches make the most money because they are in charge of the 2 sports that bring in the most money and attention.  The football came off a successful season and his contract was nearing an end…he received a contract extension and a raise in salary.  That is the way it goes in college athletics.  I fail to see how this makes Coach a hypocrite.

What any of this has to do with a "team above self" sign, I have no idea.  You can preach a team concept and still deserve to get properly compensated for your job.  Howard's salary is in line with that of other coaches on our level of football get paid.  You may not think it is fair that he gets paid more then anyone in the department, but as the leader of the most high profile sport, he's going to get compensated better then say, the cross country coach.  How much is building a program that gets national attention for being in bowl game, or appearing on ESPN2 in back-to-back weeks worth for the University?  Those games on national TV are basically 3 hour commercials for the school.  You can't buy that kind of exposure.  That is why he gets paid more then others.  What is so hard to understand about this?

So the sign says "team above self".  We get it.  I don't think a trip to the Oxley center to read it is neccessary, since you've already told us what it says.  Coach deserves every penny he makes.  If you think him coaching is about the money, you are insane.  The man should be sitting on his boat fishing, thinking about his tee time the next morning.  Instead hes out there building a program, recruiting, raising money, and winning a bowl game.  The very fact that he is still coaching fully supports the "team above self" concept.  If anything, he is under-compensated for the value he generates for the program and the school.

I answered your question human being. I have not seen the sign, but even if the said sign exists that has nothing to do with Howard getting compensated for doing his job.

Should Notre Dame take down the "Play Like a Champion Sign"? Are they hypocrits for having the sign and not playing like champions??

If you're so busy devoting yourself to this team…can you please spend a few minutes with the special teams? They're awful
