Coach’s comments from Sunday Night 11/7

There were no injuries in Saturday’s 17-16 win over WKU, and everyone was at practice Sunday afternoon and participating.

The defense played a big part in the victory on the road and Howard Schnellenberger says that one of the big reasons they found success was the improving play of the defensive line.

“We had some pressure on the quarterback and he had some bad throws,” coach said.

FAU gave up a season low 70-passing yards and forced an interception in the process.

That take away came when cornerback Tavious Polo intercepted a ball in the end zone and ran it up the field almost losing possession as he fumbled on the return. Luckily the Owls recovered the loose ball but coach felt like the issue was something that needed to be addressed.

“I felt like I’m a poor teacher,” Schnellenberger. “I can’t think of any reason to bring it out, and certainly the situation in our game there was absolutely no reason to bring it out.”

Besides the few mistakes the defense did make, it was overall one of their best performances of the season.

“They got more confident as they went along and they stayed with what had been good for them, and it continued to be good for them.”

The offense on the other hand continued its season long struggles and managed only 215 yards of offense.

“It’s one of those things were one player on this play didn’t decided to take care of his assignment and on another play it was somebody else,” he said. “It added up to be too many for us to maintain possession.”
