Coaching Choice raises some concerns

It’s a little surprising that character is not an important quality in coach.  Coaches are responsible for helping develop character in young people.  Based on some of the comments, maybe the public should not be concerned about the issues at Penn State and Syracuse.  I guess we should all believe that it is none of our business what happen to those kids.  It is between Coach Fine, Coach Sandusky and the kids.

You're kidding me, right? How do you compare an affair or being divorced to being a pedophile? Last I checked, Tim Tebow isn't looking for a coaching job.

The point I'm trying to make is that character is important.  I hope the rumors are not true.  I hope he has a successful career and wins many championships. I just hope that FAU did their due diligence to make sure that he does not embarrass the University one day.  Their where some pretty good candidates that didn't have any issues.  Go Owls!

Please name me one guy on our list that didn't have any issues…
I can see where you are coming from, we don't want to have the scandal in college sports.  But comparing a divorce and an affair to RAPING CHILDREN is uncalled for.  Palini has not done anything like that, and saying that he might be the next Sandusy is personally insulting.  No matter what, we don't know what the future holds for this program, including Palini.  We just have to give him our 100% support as he now as the reigns on our program

I think it is fine and appropriate to expect self-discipline from a football coach, as well as from a football team. Or oneself. Or a neighbor. But for now, I think Mr. Pelini is innocent until proven guilty. Please don't stumble, coach.

I'd have to agree with that. You can't bring the Penn State situation into this discussion.

"Media intrusive"? If it weren't for the media, Penn State would still have that alleged pedophile running around campus.

Any coach who makes hundreds of thousands of dollars or more of public money each year to coach a game should live with any and all media interest, or find a nice, quiet $40,000 job out of the spotlight.

We all have baggage in this media intrusive world we live in. Just wait until all those wealthy cougar's in Boca get a hold of him!

I think he was pointing out that it doesn't take much to find dirt on somebody.

Hilarious thread.  You realize that more than half the male population in their late 30's - mid 40's (coaching age) are divorced?  I would venture to guess half of them had affairs.  It's the world we live in.  That doesn't mean someone isn't a good role model for kids.

Re: Coaching Choice raises some concerns

I'm not concerned at all, as someone previously said, Coach S. had an entourage bring all his baggage to FAU when he came.  For our salary level, we were not going to get the "perfect" candidate, we all knew we were looking for someone with some baggage (ex. Leach, Leavitt, etc..).  I'm just extremly glad that we have a "name" coach, and am looking forward to some changes.  I wanna see the excitement put back into FAU football.  Just think, in 365 more days, we could all be making travel arrangements to our bowl game.  ;D
