The AAC only has 12 teams. CUSA has 14. I know it's been talked about how a way in is if someone leaves. What about us joining the league and no one leaving. So there would be 13 teams in the AAC. It would still be less than the ACC, Big 10 and SEC. We would bring a lot of visibility to the AAC. One great season might not get us in, but it could start everything.

1. We could not just bring 1 team it would have to be 2.

2. We bring no value. The TV would not increase because we entered thus it would mean the other 12 teams would have to split money 2 more ways. Along with having to share the spotlight its self, UCF or USF would never in a million years want another Florida school to jump to their level.

Being invited to a conference has zero to do with winning an all "can you make the school in the conference already more money.''

This is my hot Syracuse fan take. The only way we’re going to see any major conference realignment like what we did a few years ago is if a P5 program dropped football either by their choice or a death penalty so severe they were forced to drop football. That would open up an easy P5 spot for balance reasons. And I think the chances of either of those things are 0.00001.

The last conference expansion basically streamlined all of the various ‘smaller’ leagues. Big East became ACC and American. Sun Belt became American and C-USA and a newer Sun Belt. We have enough conferences in FBS right now, I think.

P5 team isn’t voluntarily dropping football or moving down even if they’re consistently bad or outclassed in their league (Syracuse should have gone to the American for competitive reasons but I get why they’re in the ACC). And I just don’t see a world of expansion right now. And if there is expansion, it won’t be FAU or FIU getting the call. It’ll be someone like Houston.

TL;DR: FAU is probably in C-USA for a long time unless something drastic happens to college football. But this isn’t a bad home for them, especially with the new TV deals.

Sorry to hijack the thread for a second, but glad to see a fellow Cuse fan on here! I grew up downstate, but always pulled for them growing up – and still do.

Carry on lol

But that’s where we stand with re-alignment, IMHO. At least on the big stage. G5 is such a crapshoot, especially with a couple teams in recent years dropping down to FCS. But the stakes aren’t worth it for a P5 team to voluntarily drop down, even if they’re not really a football school. And that most likely means the P5 conferences aren’t expanding. The Big 12 isn’t going to become the Big 14 anytime soon.

What’s your take on our place in CFB being in C-USA Jake? Would you say it’s a respectable conference?

I have no problem with staying in CUSA (but I once bought a 1990 Mercury Sable…).

I'd rather, and I imagine it more likely, we swap a team or two with the other G5ers. Far-flung Texas schools for GA State or App State or some other State. NT and La Tech and S Miss, for a Navy or Cinn or, I don't know, Temple, East Carolina?

Regions. It's the way to go. What do I know (it's not like we'll get FIU, MIA and FAU cross-playing each other on a yearly basis so, what do I really care?)?

What's a Romphf (that's a joke about things going off the rails)???

I'll chime in.

C-USA fine, for now, there some good up and coming like UNT, UNCC, and FAU. There are also some ones with a good history and program, but will not see much growth like USM, Marshall, and LA Tech.

In the end, it does not matter because we have been labeled G5 by the big boys which basically means "you are not invited"

FAU does ok financially for this conference, so it makes sense for us to stay and keep growing here.

I think because of all the great work UCF done raising a stink about the current system, we could see an 8 team playoff off which might include 1 G5 school which gives everyone a chance to play for the title.

I agree with pretty much everything Shane said but I’ll add sometimes it’s good to be a big fish in a small pond. What gets lost sometimes with talk of expansion, even with the CFP, is you have a lot of great G5 (or mid-major in other sports) teams that would get throttled against the blue blood programs. And CUSA has shown in the last couple years they’re willing to be a big fish in a small pond with the TV deals. Having NFLN broadcasting CUSA games is a tremendous get.

BTW, I’m all for expanding the playoff if you can get past some of the logistical stuff, FWIW, and I do think one G5 team should be represented. I just think it’s not always going to be clear cut and obvious which G5 team deserves to represent G5.

There are things about FAU that could get us to move up. And I think there’s valid points to us not moving up. Odu and Charlotte appear to be up and coming football schools. But we have the best weather in the country. And a very diverse student population, one of the most diverse in the country. Those are very attractive to other conferences. I think the 2019 recruiting class was a huge sign. The Schmidt center. I never said it wouldn’t take time and it will. UCf was not really a desirable school 20 years ago just as an example. But we have a better location imo than USF or UCf. It’d sdguable but being in the tri county area a relatively short drive from major hot spots.
