Conference realignment.

I find it hard to believe that the new conference would consider taking FAU or FIU without taking the other.  Taking 1 makes no sense.  You are going to have a conference that stretches from Florida to Hawaii and have the Florida schools' next closest opponent be in what?  New Orleans?  That doesn't make sense for the Florida school or the rest of the conference.

since when do conferences make sense… Boise & San Diego in the big East, Missouri in the SE… they do what they want apparently!  ;)

my thoughts on the subject…
IF the Sun Belt COULD stay intact, I would say stay there. But, I don't see that happening.
IF the new USA/MWC get a BCS tie in, there is no reason we should not go, no matter the cost. But we don't even know if they will get one.

I would love to see East Carolina play FAU. I was station in North Carolina, and they love football as much as we do.

YES we do!!!  ;D

Re: Conference realignment.

This guy suggests that the WAC and Sunbelt should merge and form a 14 team football conference and an 18 team basketball conference.

"This agreement would require the addition of eight more schools, and probably means the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) and Sun Belt Conferences are likely to be targeted (again) by this new mega-conference.

Perhaps, the time has come for the WAC to take a page from the "competitive agreement" playbook and make a preemptive strike to preserve their own conference and prevent further damage to their brand.

The WAC shouldn't look any further than the Sun Belt Conference for a potential "competitive agreement" partner. It would appear to make a lot of sense for both conferences, as well as all of the schools involved."

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

A very good point Jab. I would love to see San Jose St. Travel cost would rise, but fans from those colder climates I think would fly down for a game in Florida.

Thanks, but I can't take the credit for an article someone else wrote.

Travel would rise, hopefully so would money. You'd hope fans would come out to the stadium to see some of these WAC teams. Granted Boise would only be in the conference for 1 season but that 1 season they're more than likely to make a BCS bowl game meaning we get a share of that money too. Plus we'd finally have a conference championship

Re: Conference realignment.

I don't think a WAC-Sun Belt merger makes any sense at all unless both conferences get so depleted that they'll collapse otherwise.

Location wise, no.. however we may be left with no choice

Which might be a possible outcome.

Re: Conference realignment.

With a super conference CUSA and MWC, we need a larger conference to stay competitive in recruiting and on the field. I would love to go to the newer conference with a oppurtinty for newer markets that comes from TV broadcast, but a merger with the WAC would help, because they would broadcast in those markets.

As to if CUSA is MUCH better then the 'Belt that is very open for Debate. It is BETTER but not by much anymore.

Until bowl agreements change, C-USA is a better move. Look at WKU this year. 7 wins and because the belt only has 2 guarantee tie-ins they get left out of the equation. I believe it was last year or the year before when Troy had 7 or 8 wins and they got left out of a bowl game because the Belt didn't have enough tie-ins. C-USA in that aspect makes a lot more sense. If you win 7 games in that conference you're going to end up in a bowl game

Yup! CUSA's Marshall got in at 6-6 (and beat the tar out of the Kitties - SAD!).
