The original article is was an online publication of the Lawrence Journal - World.
On Friday, June 17 a letter to the editor was published with some nice things to say about FAU. It looks to me like maybe an alumni. I know when I was attending FAU there were students there from all over the country and world so it could be. He signed the letter as being from Lawrence.

To the editor:

Tuesday, Chuck Woodling wrote that ?nobody takes Florida Atlantic seriously because the school is only four years old.? FAU was founded in 1964, not 2001, and it?s a decent regional university with some internationally recognized programs. I believe that Mr. Woodling has confused the football program with the university ? something sports enthusiasts and reporters sometimes do. But it?s not right.

He gets his region wrong, too, describing Boca Raton as ?suburban Miami.? But Boca is about 40 miles away from the Miami limit ? it?s like describing Lawrence as being in suburban Kansas City, Missouri.

FAU may be a football pushover (we hope), but it?s a strongly academic university with only a tenuous connection to its football team.

Chris Crandall,

I found this with a general news search on MSN for FAU.

Doesn't it seem strange to all of you, that guys hired to write about local sports teams are supposed to be experts? They are supposed to know the complete ins and outs of their local team; they make editorial comments based upon their complete knowledge. Woodling may have the position of being the expert local writer, but he is FAR from being expert. H*ll, I probably know more about the KU football team, and the FAU football team than Woodling does. And he gets paid to know it. I think the Lawrence paper deserves to get some of his salary back - he sure doesn't appear to know enough to earn it.

We all have them. It makes you wonder about their bosses/Editers who evaluates these clowns.

Wow.

That letter to the editor is actually from a professor here at KU. I just took a class from him last year.

Here's one of those worldly types who's travelled all over, but it's also possible he's worked with some professors of psychology at FAU. I almost remember him saying something about it……

An in-house(Kansas Fan) editorial correction about an out of state opponent! That's seems even worse for the editor/writer/imitation sportsguy.

All he had to do was pick up a general FLA map or even Google the friggin school!

I am one KU fan who does not believe the game with FAU will be a cakewalk. In fact, I have selected this game as one of the two I will be attending. I live in Myrtle Beach, SC so taking a flight to Kansas City and then renting an automobile for the drive to Lawrence, hotel etc., is expensive. I only point this out to emphasize that I expect a close contest. I don't spend that kind of money to view a boring one-sided ball game.
Good luck to your program. I have the highest respect for your Coach. I still remember him bringing his Louisville team (then not highly thought of) to Lawrence and kicking the Jayhawks butt.

Welcome to the board juliofrippo

Thanks for the words of encouragement. We hope to make a good game of it for 4 qtrs. Winning would be nice too. ;)

I really don't think your coach will take FAU lightly. Now if his players have other ideas….. ;D

Schnellenberger's Louisville teams beat us home and away when Glen Mason was our coach. When Howie was at the helm of OU, we went down to Norman and we took them out on ESPN. Great game! Of course, we ended the season 10 - 2, ranked in the top ten, and embarrassed UCLA in the Aloha Bowl. I'd like for us to get to that level AND SUSTAIN IT this time…

Greetings from Breckenridge, Colo., where the new FAU flag flew proudly at 9,680 feet above sea level on the Fourth of July. We're planning to attend the FAU-KU game. Any word on whether the Alumni Association will have a tent in Lawrence? (Some friends from Boca are flying to Colorado Springs, which is our real home, and we'll make that dreadful drive across Kansas to see the game.) Here, in the mountains (and a bit west of the Continental Divide), I saw a number of Jayhawks shirts yesterday – but more for the Buffs, of course. 'Tis nice here: Days in the low 70s, nights in the low 40s (sometimes the high 30s), even this time of the year. The humidity is around 20 percent. Local folks say Breckenridge has nine months of winter and three months when it might snow. It has snowed on July 4, but yesterday was not the time. It topped out at 73 degrees, low humidity, perfect for the National Repertory Orchestra's traditional July 4th concert, which led to the fireworks. The night was crisp and cool – ah, football weather. I'm really eager for the season to roll around.

Nice weather report. How's this one for the July 4th celebration? 92 degrees. HIGH humidity and Severe thunderstorms throughout the day. Fla at it's best.. :)

Oh yeah..Red Tide on the Central West Coast Beaches. Dead fish floating on-shore with the stench to go with it. Some say it's Mother Nature's way of cleansing the water. A water filter would have been better and less of a headache.. ;D
