Doh! Miami to play USF

I'm guessing this probably isn't a good thing for our quest to schedule the Canes.

TAMPA, Fla. – Miami and South Florida agreed to a two-game home-and-home series on Thursday, with the teams to first meet next season in the Orange Bowl on Oct. 1.

The Hurricanes will make the return trip to Tampa's Raymond James Stadium on a date to be determined after the NCAA's vote regarding 12-game seasons in January. Next year's game will be the first between the two schools.

``It's a testament to our football program that we are able to schedule a five-time national championship team on a home-and-home basis,'' USF Athletics Director Doug Woolard said.

Formerly a member of Conference USA, the Bulls will enter Miami's old conference next season, joining the Big East. South Florida began it's football program in 1997.

``The Bulls have developed into a very good football program in a very short period of time,'' Miami AD Paul Dee said. ``We think they will provide a great level of competition.''

The 2005 game at Miami will also be the first in-state road game for the Bulls.

Good for USF. The more in-state Florida games, the merrier. The 2005 schedule is getting incestuous:

USF vs. Miami
USF vs. UCF
Miami vs. Florida
Miami vs. Florida State
Florida vs. Florida State
FAU vs. FIU
FIU vs. FAMU
FAMU vs. Bethune-Cookman

In addition, UCF and Florida have some games scheduled (yikes!), starting with the Golden Knights' visit to Gainesville on Sept. 9, 2006. (This is listed on the Gators' official site in the future football schedules section.) The Owls need to crash the established schools' party one of these years, for attendance purposes if no other…

I feel that the party crashing will happen soon. UM's Athletic director Dee, went on record this year saying he didn't want to play FAU anytime soon. My guess is the UM/USF deal came into play for two reasons.

1-They now play in the more viable Big East vs C-USA
2-USF actually PULLED some recruits FROM UM the last two years!!!

THe FSU(Bowden) game may happen sooner than the UM game. UF may even have some talks with Coach Schnell now that Meyer is there. New man,new ideas.

The UCF/USF game is the 1st next year. That could go either way in a few years. We may pick up one of those two or it could be a three way series.
Look at UF/FSU/UM. All play each other in the same year.

That just gives us a few more years to get better to really be able to challenge UM when we play them. ;D

Agreed, an FSU game will propable happen before a UM game - Imagine UF at Home (at PPS) attendance would be huge.

Where are they playing the UCF/USF game this year, could be an interesting match-up.
