Early Rumors Indicate FAU NOT a part of Conference Expansion

Dont forget one key thing… Our historically apathetic Athletic Director/Marketing department… If we are playing the "sit back and see" game when it comes to joining the new Conf we have already lost out. I can tell you the other schools thinking about joining are not waiting… They are courting the new conference 24/7…

Also FIU is already a C-USA member school for Mens Soccer so they already have a toe in the door.

Another article that does not list us… "according to UTEP President Diana Natalicio;  additional schools to comprise the 18-24-team conference have not been discussed but she said that Utah State (currently in the WAC) and Florida International (Sun Belt) have been discussed. UTEP Athletic Director also said that New Mexico State (WAC) is also on their list of possible candidates."

This new Conf will have semifinals followed by a Conf Championship Game!

If FIU goes and we don't, we will be laughing stocks.  Then some people are going to have to answer in a big way- especially given the $70 million investment in a new stadium.  The lobbying to enter this new conference should be well under way. The president of the new conference and his staff should have an immediate invite to Boca Raton to be sold on FAU being invited in.  "Wait and See" is BS.

I have posted before that we might even turn down an invitation brecause a move up would ALSO require a hugh move up in buget for all matters; Coaching salaries, travel, recriting budget,etc... FOR ALL SPORTS if we are to be remotely competitive.

I don't think the infrastructure is in place to make a move like this.  With the right people, it could be.  Either way, we need to solicit getting into this conference which would be a 1-2 year delay before entry; and build the infrastructure to where it needs to be immediately.  By this I mean the ability to raise money through marketing and promotions.  Aggressively sell ticket packages, tenaciously go after large corporate sponsors, build the booster base, etc. , etc.

Well a new stadium is good, but arena wise, I agree. We need a new basketball arena.

I completely agree. The lukewarm reaction from the administration is in stark contrast to some others who have been extremely proactive and enthusiastic (e.g. LA Tech). We built the stadium to raise the profile of the university and to be ready for exactly these types of opportunities. Staying in the SBC after FIU moves on is not a net equal move – it's a huge step back. Remember when we were in the A-Sun and UCF was our peer in athletics (it wasn't that long ago)? Look at what's happened since then.

Exactly! We are supposed to model ourselves after them. We talk all the time on here how much we hate them, yet we want to be just like them. They have their on campus stadium which we modeled ours after, they have their version of innovation village which we got the idea for ours.

They just got invited to the Big East and we may not even be able to leave the Sun Belt. Someone's a$$ needs to be on the line if FIU moves on and leaves us in the dust.

It's like passing up on a promotion that comes with a raise and a better job title because it's too much responsibility and you enjoy making $10/hr

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

I've said before, I have not been fond of the idea of moving to a crumbling CUSA, but if in any way this new CUSA/MWC gets a BCS Bid, then we NEED to get on this bus at any cost!

GO OWLS!!!
