Early Rumors Indicate FAU NOT a part of Conference Expansion

NCowl said

I've said before, I have not been fond of the idea of moving to a crumbling CUSA, but if in any way this new CUSA/MWC gets a BCS Bid, then we NEED to get on this bus at any cost!

GO OWLS!!!

If we ever want to move into an AQ conference we have to first move to C-USA. A Sunbelt team isn't going to get invited into an AQ conference without moving up to a better non BCS conference first

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

From everything I've read the NCAA is going to do away with AQ's.  Hope they do.

So much is unknown right now that it is hard to determine what is the best course.

The Alliance is a huge monster with many moving parts that arent even finallized yet. No one really knows the size and scope of payouts, TV deals bowl agreements etc etc…

I am going to do the only thing I know how to do. Continue to go to FAU games beacause I enjoy it and feel that its a good way to spend Saturday Afternoons.

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

So what makes FIU more appealing than FAU? They are coming off their best season in school history and we're coming off of our worst. Simple as that

It's really true - and was why I was really afraid of the way the program was going the past few seasons. I'm sure the AD and staff will do what they can to make sure FAU is in the mix, but FIU is the hot team with more exposure and visibility. They have received much more 'exposure' with Isiah, the national basketball events they host, the good recruiting classes, having a guy like TY, and let's face it - a pretty competitive football program the past two seasons. I remember when they beat Louisville on the road there was a lot of national talk about them being a 'big east team trapped in the Sunbelt'.  And I'm sure being in the heart of Miami will help them.

Other than that the schools are essentially identical. Academically both are lower tier 'national' universities with certain strong points here and there. But right now we are likely being left somewhat behind in the discussions, and that is a direct result of us not capitalizing off the two bowl games.

Haha, its not true at all.  You think business men are like "you see the season Arkansas State just had in the Belt?  Man we have to get them.  Yeah, and thier 8 3 star recruits would just do wonders for our conference."

There was ONE true post on this board and that is…."what happens when Cristobal leaves?"  Hell, athletes shouldn't pick a program because of the coach let alone a confernce!

ANY SMART FOOTBALL FAN KNOWS THEY ARE RIGHT BACK TO THIER 0-23 WAYS WHEN HE IS GONE.  You think somebody in the boardroom says "what about that kid TY that wanted his momma to watch every game so he stayed home…shouldn't we put them in the conference for that?"   ::)  The reason we are AHEAD of FIU right now NO MATTER WHAT LASTS YEARS RECORD WAS is that we have the infrastucture that they dont ($70 million stadium).  If Cristobal leaves they are screwed, if Pelini leaves we can easily attract another quality coach…because we have the INFRASTRUCTURE to do so.

Business men realize its about INFRASTRUCTURE…not your 7-6 record that makes them want to bring you to a conference.  Infrastuctrue and potential dollars.  Haha, bring them in because of Isiah Thomas…LOL, thats just funny.

This is ENTIRELY Angelos's deal, it his sole responsibility to sell our school to whatever conference we want to get into.  Fly people that make those decisions to take a look at our campus and educate them on the possibilities of FAU.  How about pointing out that 24,000 freshman applied to FAU last year along with 8,000 transfer students…you want a stat that is more impressive than a 7-5 record and an embarassing bowl performance there you go.

An organization with great leadership and competent personnel all working in tandem toward the same vision and common goal represents an organization with a good infrastructure.   I have my opinion, but I leave it to the rest of you to judge whether or not it exists here.

THIS. Couldn't have worded that any better. And what is Boca full of? Middle to upper class population who are highly educated professionals. The media is continuously wrong…simply look at the baseball off season and the "mystery-team/surprise" sigings of Albert Pujols (Angels), Yoenis Cespedes (A's), and Prince Fielder (Detroit).

Re: Early Rumors Indicate FAU NOT a part of Conference Expansion

All I know is that we cannot and should not be left behind, while FIU apparently moves on to bigger and better things.  I really hope Angelos has already spoken on the  telephone with the Alliance Conference lobbying for our invite.  I truly believe that we will attract more casual football fans with competition against Southern Miss, East Carolina, Tulsa, Fresno State, Air Force, instead of Ark state and the Louisiana's schools.  Mr. Angelos, please get on it pronto!!

Well one thing that might (and should) hurt FIU is the BB attendance - LAST IN THE BELT! Great job by a school throwing out numbers like 40K+ students!

Leadership is an entirely different issue.  I am not saying out leadership is anything spectacular.
