Good points tangygirl. Something to remember about athletes in Florida.
Appx 300 football signings per year. 125 will go to the Big 3, USF and UCF. That's 275 kids who will get a shot at leaving and going out of state. Those are the kids who FAU and FIU are targeting to stay. So in a sense, they are D1-A talent left over. Just that some don't have the choices of the other schools so the choose to stay home. We have to keep in mind that there are several starters this year and from the past, who had other college offers from more visible and larger schools.
The saying in the recruiting would is…."If talent is there, the NFL will find it".
Unfortunately if 125 of the 300 kids go to the "Big 3" then that only leaves 175 kids in FL to sign. That being said some of the best players ever in the NFL were Division 1-AA (Walter Payton, and I believe Jerry Rice). Plus the talent evalution is not even an exact science in the NFL (Tom Brady picked in the 6th round, and a few years earlier Ryan Leaf and Rick Mirer were picked with the #2 overall pick). We'll find enough good kids and hit on some diamonds in the rough until our program has been around longer and/or established Sun Belt supremacy.
We'll be fine…no reason to scrap our football future for one loss to our closest rival. ;) : ;D

Good catch mh2os. :-[
It should have read 75 will sign with the big 3. That's an average of 25 kids per team. Then the rest of the 225 should be fair game to consider staying home..

When did this happen? Is this BS or has this been an issue? "also-ran reputation"? "academic prowess questioned"?UF and FSU officials acknowledge some jealousy as to Scripps' choice of FAU, which has struggled with an also-ran reputation and even found its academic prowess questioned at a recent county commission meeting.
