MURFREESBORO ? Middle Tennessee State senior defensive end Sean Mosley has quit the football team.

A starter for most of his career, Mosley was one of the standouts on MTSU?s dominant defensive line last season.

Mosley had started 27 career games, including all 13 last season. He recorded career highs of 40 tackles and 9.5 tackles for loss last season as a junior.

Mosley had participated in spring practice, offseason workouts, fall camp and the team picture Sunday before deciding to quit the team today.

MTSU Coach Rick Stockstill will release a statement about the situation following tonight?s practice.

It is the fifth MTSU player and third starter to be lost in two days. Starting fullback Hunter Birtsch (knee), starting center Jake Padrick (shoulder) and true freshman linebacker Landon Givers (back) will miss the season due to injury.

Reserve fullback Brodey Mann was dismissed from the team Monday for missing multiple practices.

We've lost our STARTING CENTER, OUR STARTING FULL BACK AND NOW THIS!!!!! I cannot believe this is happening.

I know it should be a good game and unfortunately for us it's been hot up there as well. I was just reminding you of your own comments on your board. ;)

Win or lose I'll be back to say "good game" and set the record straight on who was or was not correct in their predictions. I think you are letting that first win with Coach Mac at the helm go to your head. This is not the same team…Not even close. Like I said: It wouldn't surprise me to see you guys win, but I doubt it. I think we just have too much talent, especially at WR. However, the heat may be a problem. We have been training in 100+ degree heat here, so I hope it won't matter.

Wow! Sounds to me like you guys might even be in contention for the national championship. Good job to your coach for bring a team that has always been chicken sh_t and turning it into chicken salad.

Yeah, but from what I hear, we have enough to fill the holes and hang with most teams in the Sunbelt.

Yeah, we have underperfromed a lot under our old coach, but like I said earleir, those days are over. Godd luck to FAU.

I am tired of hearing all of this "underperformed under our old coach" crap. MTSU didn't play well before and I am still not convinced that they are a top team in the SBC under the new coach.

Any and all questions will be answered in week one when FAU and MTSU take the field. Until then I don't want to hear any excuses about past play.

Well said…saying we "underperformed" is one of the most pathetic excuses you can come up with. So what you are saying is you had the talent and you still stink?

The only reason MT beat us last year is because we were playing with a Freshman & Sophomore team. As for where we will be ranked in the Sunbelt….DEFINATELY # 1 and then we will be moving forward into the Big East and leave you MT chumps in our dust.

Would you please explain to me how, when you can't get 10,000 people to a football game, or 1,000 people to a basketball game, you're going to join the Big East?

Man you guys are delusional.

Very easy…By stomping the crap out of all of the teams in the Sunbelt and winning a few OUT OF CONFERANCE GAMES.

OK, let's go over this. Losing the center hurts, but our line runs about 10-11 deep so that gap will be filled. There may be a little bit of a dropoff, but not much.

Our starting quarterback is fine.
The fullback is only used about 15 snaps per game in our offense. The senior that got hurt would have eventually been beaten out by a freshman, as would the backup.
Moseley was a backup. A better defensive end than just about any other team in the Sun Belt has, but a backup none the less.
One of the linebackers that was supposed to be out for the season played in the scrimmage yesterday.

If you want to talk about personnel losses, I'd be looking at your receivers, because you know you can't run on us. We've proven that we can run all over you at any time and our receivers are light years better than last year.

Expect a repeat of the last two years:
MT 35, FAU 14 ??But there will be dozens and dozens of FAU fans at the game. I think this year, you might actually have more fans at the game than MT (which you didn't in 2005).

Yes, that is exactly what I am saying. We had talent and the old coach didn't utilize it. Bad management ruins a team every time.
