ESPN's Top 10 potential BCS busters

I'm sure there will be A LOT of people there but honestly you can't make a comparison in crowd noise. Clemson, Florida, Texas. Probably 3 of the loudest stadiums FAU has played in, most if not all of the seniors and some of the Jr's we're on this team when they went to those places as well.

There were over 100,000 people at DKR (Darrel K Royal in Texas). It set a state record for the most people to attend a football game in that state. Now unless Nebraska is planning on having close to 200,000 people there crowd noise won't matter

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

We have a 4 year starter at QB that has experience in this enviornment vs. a Nebraska QB that hasn't played a single full game and I dont care how reputable your program is…if you dont have a QB with experience anything can happen (call those 3-9 boys in Ann Arbor, most winningest program in D-I football and ask if they agree).  I truly believe there is a 30-40% chance of an upset (in otherwords, we play 10 times I think we win 3-4 of those) which is pretty high.

Two things here: I agree with your statement about qb's for the most part. Though, when Troy went to UF, second game of the season (might not have been first, but it's close) it was 49-7 at the half, with their new starter, Tim Tebow. Our QB, Omar Haugabook, was a senior. We got stomped. Also, when App St rolled into Ann Arbor, they brought with them a 15 game winning streak. It's not that they knew how to win, it was that they didn't know how to lose. I LOVED THAT GAME BY THE WAY, watched it on gamecast.

On the other hand, when Troy rolled into LSU, they were having a qb controversy with lead to a 31-3 lead by Troy. Even more shocking, when Oklahoma State came to Troy in 2007 with their QB Controversy, Troy lead them 41-10 at one point, and finished the game 41-23. So, Walty is, for the most part, making a good point about qb's. Though, the 30 to 40% chance of winning is very high, and I think it's closer to 10 to 15%. I say that because of holes on defense (first game, all your holes to the equivalent of them breaking in a new qb, it's null). Also, they haven't lost a home opener since 1985 or 1987 (cant remember right now, it's in the phil steele mag). That's enough to bring your chances from 40% to 15%, IMO.

Not knocking you guys, but this running game with Alfred Morris…is there a possibility those spring game rushing yards came from lack of defensive consistency rather than true prowess in the running game? If it was defense, Nebraska could have a field day running ball, using the qb less (which, by the way, is typical protocal: if you're breaking in a new quarterback, run the ball down your opponents throats).

I'll be rooting you guys on the whole way, and we in the sunbelt are in this together. Just trying to look at the game from a different point of view. Come join us over at the sunbelt board, I'm TroyFootball05 over there.

harmon will be a slot receiver on the next level. he won't be able to block on the next level like a tight end is expected to.

i think we have a shot but i also thought we had a shot vs texas and we lost by 40.

Dont know why everybody takes that game so to heart.  Nebraska fans are cocky and look at some of these gems from last season:

October 4 No. 4 Missouri  L 52-17
November 1 at No. 4 Oklahoma  L 62-28

Those losses are just a big a pounding as Texas gave us and the Mizzou game was AT HOME and IN CONFERENCE.  I respect Nebraska's program….but to say we should fear them because of a loss to Texas?  They had losses that were just as bad as ours and they are supposed to be the "Powerhouse" program.  Not saying we are going to win, but this isn't Texas.

Teambeer is the most knowledgeable FAU sports fan I know, way smarter than me.

Crowd noise is overrated.

the OU game we gifted them with 21 points in the first 5 minutes.

we ran the same first play for 5 weeks straight(bubble screen to swift) and the box out reciever on that screen wiffed his block the ou corner stepped in front and immediately scored.  the next possession mike mcneil catchs a pass and takes a step then gets hammered and the ball flies up 50 feet landing in a OU linebackers arms.  it was just the worst way to start a game.

the mizzou game we tried to get to cute defensively when the defense didn't understand much of the nuances.

that said nebraska wins by 28.

Re: ESPN's Top 10 potential BCS busters

Guys listen…….Do we have a chance?  Sure, of course anyone has a chance on any given Saturday.  Is the probability good for a win?  NO!

First, FAU hasn't set a precedent to make me believe they are even going to keep this game close.  The closest FAU came to upsetting a ranked team was an overrated USF team in FT. Lauderdale.  Just look how our guys have fared against un-ranked big 12 teams on the road before.  Blowout loses to Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Texas.  Not to mention body bag games against middle ranked conference SEC teams like Kentucky and South Carolina.  With the exception of Texas i would put this year's Nebraska team better than all of those teams listed.  Nebraska has the potential to be this year's Texas, they've been getting better every year.  The tradition and positional depth Nebraska will have on opening day really puts the scale at an 80% to 20% in their favor even with a new QB.  I'm not trying to be negative just realistic.  I think it's great that everyone on this board is die hard about FAU football and are looking at every possible avenue to give us a better chance.  I just don't want everyone here to get their hopes up like the Texas game last year.  That loss was crushing not just for the team but for the entire fan base on here as well.  I'll be hoping and cheering for FAU just like everyone else on here in September and i hope the unthinkable happens.  But just keep our program in perspective.  We are a talented Sun-Belt team and that's about it right now.

+1

There is ALWAYS a chance, and we do have a few things in our favor that help increase those odds.

However it is most likely a loss. Lets take the 800K, play our best and watch some football.

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

Re: ESPN's Top 10 potential BCS busters

I'm as dedicated a fan as anyone. But I think the only way the Owls beat Nebraska – very slim chance, if any – is to steal the game. Run traditional plays and it most likely won't work. Try some razzle-dazzle and gambling and you might – might – put some points up and steal a few from them. Of course, when gambling, you risk an even greater blowout. The coach has been there before. It will be interesting to see how he plays it. I hope he proves me wrong. But I remind one and all: The Nebraska program grows 'em big and strong.
