ESPN760 Extends Agreement with FAU; Boca Area Back on with WLVJ

Yep, the family values station is back…and we should be able to hear the broadcast locally now; which has been a sticking point for those who live in the South Palm beach County area for a while now - no can hear.

Good news, and looking forward to that come men's basketball season as well.

Florida Atlantic University football and men’s basketball games will be broadcast this season on ESPN Radio. ESPN 760 AM is the flagship station and will broadcast in Palm Beach County and southern Martin County, and WLVJ1040 AM will air in Broward County. WLVJ's first broadcast of FAU football will be on September 24, when the Owls play defending national champion Auburn. Athletics has a multi-year agreement with ESPN Radio who has been covering FAU since 2009 with play-by-play coverage for football and basketball games. FAU men's basketball games will be carried solely by ESPN 760 AM.

For football games, Ken LaVicka does play-by-play with FAU alum and former Owl football player Jason Pugh providing color commentary. Alex Petakas serves as studio host. LaVicka will also serve as the play-by-play voice for Owls basketball, while Evan Cohen will provide color during home games.

"There is no better time to be a partner with FAU than right now as we watch the football program kick off its first season in a beautiful new on-campus stadium,” said Steve Politziner, general manager of ESPN 760. “ESPN 760 has been a part of the past two incredibly exciting seasons of Owls football and men's basketball, and we are looking forward to being a part of Owls’ athletics in 2011 and beyond."

FAU men's basketball games will be carried solely by ESPN 760 AM.

… Just when I was ready to praise FAU's marketing effort! ESPN 760 has really helped the FAU athletics image, especially when it comes to be perceived as big time and with comments and promotions when the games are not on the air.

Finally, the owls would have a radio alternative for south Palm Beach County and Broward, especially after dark when ESPN 760 cannot really be heard in the Boca area. During basketball season it's almost impossible to hear the games on radio in the university's hometown!

How ridiculous is that?!

Pretty pathetic when you can't even pick up the channel parked right in front of the arena.

It's not acceptable. Can't the administration find some station in the Boca-Delray area to sell its time for a few hours a week to at least simulcast the ESPN 760 signal? With all the garbage that's on radio at night, FAU sports would be the most interesting option.

How strong is the OWLradio Signal? They could petition to the FCC on game days to simulcast the games. That way FAU has control and less cost to cover.

Is Owl Radio even broadcast over the air? It should be, but I had thought it was available only online. FAU should have its own on-air station available to all of Broward and Palm Beach counties. The university should work something out with WXEL/WPBI.
