FAU and FIU growth gauge question

Welcome to the board thebrazenbull. Glad to have your input and thoughts on FAU football.

I should not have typed SB Title. Maxx is correct. I was actually talking about the future FAU and FIU games possibly deciding the SB championship.

These are some very good responses/speculations guys.

FAU and FIU growth gauge question

USF beating UL had the same effect as when FAU beat Hawaii - great national exposure, but it was very short lived.

As young as we are, we need to be more consistant winning at home, include our conference games - you are not going to get respect if you can't play solid at home - that to me would be a major first step, we will never compete for any SBC title if we don't establish a better home record.

Secondly, would be being invited to a Bowl Game on a consistant basis - the OCC game will take care of themselves. Making a Bowl game every three to four years, just ain't going to cut it - the successful team are there ever year.

The Bowl games will be a harder thing for us to accomplish on a consistant basis, unless we plan on winning the SBC Title every year, we do need to establish a nice little run like UNT had.

Every win helps, no matter the opponent. FAU and FIU must learn to win consistently. Because both are young, developing programs, OOC wins will be tough. So, both must be able to compete annually for the conference title to get any respect. As the programs continue to mature and recruiting gets better, beating OOC opponents will become a reality on a more consistent basis. In my opinion, focus first on winning the conference while closing the gap on the OOC scores. Once dominating the conference and with proper facilities, move to another conference and seek to become another Fresno State, a team that takes OOC opponents to the wire and wins one occasionally. With this, the recruiting improves dramatically, and FAU or FIU become a top 40 team each year. This is a ten-year plan.

I kinda feel the same way you do. Also, many other great answers here as to the "growth gauge" question by O.G. I really think we must be first consistent on our current level in terms of winning, then go on to bigger challenges and start winning one or some of those tough OOC games we have.

I think both our teams have to set the bar high, but not to unrealistic standards. Every couple of years, we should aim for "higher" goals. Only then, coupled with even better recruiting, will our programs reach the potential our leaders seek. I know both FIU and FAU are not just playing football in the long run to win the SBC and go to the New Orleans Bowl. Both programs are looking forward to the days of top 40 recognition, and the ability to land on a Bowl, even if we don't win the conference we play…..

It definitely isn't bad, helps alot in getting positive attention for the school. They don't use the shield too much unfortunately.
