Re: FAU at Texas
Looking forward to seeing FAU in Austin.
This game will go a long way towards telling us about our season. I have never seen such a schedule of great passing teams. I saw an article about spread qbs recently, and we have four of the top ten on our schedule, and that is without considering Rusty Smith, who may be as good as any of them. If our new coordinator Will Muschamp can't fix our pass defense, we are in for a long season.
I think last year was the best year to play us in quite some time. Our true talent was very young and not playing, and our older guys were still basking in the MNC victory of 2005. We were very lucky not to lose much more than we did. The refs blew a call which saved us against Arkansas State, UCF out played us as did Nebraska.
Don't let our youth fool you. Our 2007 recruiting class is as good as any class we have had come through Texas. I think we will be a much better football team this year. If you come to Austin and beat us, on the opening day of our remodeled stadium, before a new Texas record attendance of nearly 97,000, you will have done something very special.
I think this game could be a shootout. I disagree with the guy who said we can't put 50 on you. I think we easily can. I'm just not sure we can hold you under 50.

With what offense? With all due respect:
You lost your (clearly) top RB, TE, and a key WR…
Where do you personally see your teams strengths on the offensive side of the ball to accomplish this with any team except Rice??

Florida brought back SIX players from their 2006 team and layed 49 points by halftime on Troy, who by no means was a bad team last year. I still think you guys beat Texas, i think losing the defensive players will have an impact, but then again I'm no expert, I just feel loosing players doesn't GUARANTEE anything. Though it, should have some impact, possibly just enough for FAU to pull out a win.

I understand your point, but generating offense has never been a problem with this coaching staff, except against the very best defenses. We will definitely miss Jamaal Charles (rb) and his ability to shorten a field. Jermichael Finley (te) was a guy with a lot of potential who was a non factor in all games except OU last year. Limas Sweed was hurt early last year, and was not much of a contributor.
With Colt McCoy in the game, our offense will come from the passing game. We have no shortage of quality, experienced possession type receivers. Quan Cosby and Jordan Shipley have been here forever, and Montre Webber will contribute. Brandon Collins lettered last year as a true frosh. Curtis Brown, a five star wr recruit had been shifted to db last year as a freshman, but looks to be going back to wr. We look for Texas to work John Chiles into the O as a receiver when Colt is the qb. With Chiles and red shirt frosh Foswhitt Whitaker, we will present some speed problems for most secondarys in our empty backfield set. Chiles played wr in high school, till his senior year.
We won't have any drop off at tight end. That will be partly due to Finley's lack of production/interest, but also, Blaine Irby was last year's backup as a true frosh, and has a lot of talent catching the ball. Our blocking te returns.
Our biggest improvement will come from the O line. By the end of last year, our O line was dominant, with no seniors, with one true frosh starting (due to injuries), and two true frosh first off the bench. In the Texas Tech game last year, they pretty much scored at will against us, but our OLine just knocked them out and we matched them score for score.
We have two dependable plodders at running back who will get tough yardage, but they won't break the long ones like Charles used to. Fifth year senior Chris Ogbannaya, and third year sophomore Vondrell McGee have both played well. But to put excitement into the run game, watch when John Chiles comes in at qb. Chiles is our best runner, maybe our most sensational player. Whitiaker is a burner when he is in, but we know very little about him yet, except that he is good in the open field.
The season can't get here fast enough.

Not to mention our defense will LOOK worse when we have to play 2 SEC teams, a Big 12, a Big 10 (though we won they still scored alot of points), and a top ranked Big East team as our OOC schedule.
Give us the dregs of the CUSA and see how we do
The dregs of CUSA? You play in the Sun Belt……..
-Just for the hell of it, UCF allowed 19 points vs. ULL while FAU allowed 32.
-UCF allowed 21 points vs Memphis while FAU allowed 27. This discrepancy is skewed by the fact that we put every substitute in for the 2nd half (Score was 49-0 at the HALF)
- UCF allowed just 21 and 24 points vs. Tulsa, who had the #1 ranked offense in all of football.
- The USF game was a freak anomaly, period. No other way to describe it.
- UCF allowed just 10 points vs. an SEC bowl team (and all points came off turnovers, not defense's fault).
Like it or not, UCF had a good defense last year and will have a really good one this year. Our secondary may be amongst the best in football (3rd most INT's in football last year) and we have some big, talented linemen and linebackers developing into juniors and seniors. Just watch for them this year.
PS- The Texas fan said it himself, UCF outplayed Texas and just made 2 critical mistakes to lose. We'll see how FAU does….
