Re: FAU at Texas

FAU at Texas

I think we can win if we play error free and force texas to make some errors too

although i think the outcome will be something like 35 38 texas with my boy Whorley missing 2 field-goals that would have won the game, regardless we get a week of national attention for being a close game, in a week of "Fluff" games, and then we roll into Mich St and whip some booty!

Re: FAU at Texas

As good as FAU looks on paper, I think it is still going to be difficult to compete with the overall talent and depth that Texas has. Also, Texas is going to remember the scare against UCF last year and they don't want that to happen again. As much as I want FAU to win I see Texas by 14 to 17 points.

Re: FAU at Texas

It is still pretty early for predictions, but I'd guess Nunzio42 hit the nail on the head.  Anywhere from the high 30s to the high 40s for both teams.  The last team with the ball wins.  I think it is fair to say (and not sound too much like a homer) that the 97,000 home crowd, quality depth, and excellent special teams will favor Texas in a shoot out.

We have a guy who is interesting to watch on our special teams, our punter Trevor Gerland.  He has run a 14.1 110 High Hurdles in 2007, as a freshman.  In high school, he took second in the state meet, and was outleaned at the tape by Jamaal Charles (the back who just went pro early.)  Sort of unusual to have a punter/speedster.

Re: FAU at Texas

i think we will be surprised with the depth of our team, this isnt the same team we had last year, our younger players now have some expierence against large schools (i.e. Kentucky and UF) and the older players will be more able to take a break with solid talent behind them for a snap or two.

Keep in mind we are a florida team and typically thats the strength of our teams(as well as texas teams too though)…..I think were deeper than people believe!

Re: FAU at Texas

As much as HS says "advanced training is over" this is still going to be a bench mark game.  We'd have to capitalize on EVERY chance UT might give us.  I honestly see Texas winning this game but i do expect a very competitive effort from our guys.  I'd love to steal a W but playing Texas tight much like UCF did would be something i could live with.

Re: FAU at Texas

we are a road team, no doubt about it...i think it would be better to play herem (NEVER happening), but the away crowd will have no effect on our ability to move the ball, etc IMO...

I don't discount this as a possibility.  But it has been hard for me to get much of a feel for your team's over all depth and talent to this point.  I can't find rosters with good data on older recruiting classes, or any site with red shirts noted.  The best roster I've found is on the CBS site.  Rivals still has your 2005 team (I think) roster listed.  I mean, even the FAU site has 9 pictures of Smith, which turn out to be 9 pics of Savage!  Looks to me like the team is ahead of the fan base, at this point.

I'm familiar with Schnellenberger's work at Oklahoma and Louisville.  Less so on what he did in Miami (apart from the obvious.)  And yes, I know how much talent exists in Florida.  So I know he could have built a very deep and talented program by now.  I know he knows how to do it.  I would just like to see it on paper, if someone knows where a good roster is.

Re: FAU at Texas

The fanbase is pretty much a core of really intense fans, we lack the humdrum sort of fan that will go to the game and not really do much else.  So even though we lack the numbers we are intense.  Just ask Memphis who definitely outnumbered us but we were louder the whole game.  The one game we were able to get the other humdrum fans was USF and that was a good experience because if anything we were able to show them what to do.

As far as roster, maybe check the spring prospectus.  Also I think that theres a depth chart floating around somewhere.. dont know where.

And definitely don't judge us by what you see on Rivals.  I won't go into all the details again – we had a whole thread on that recently – so just suffice to say there are reasons that we are here instead of there.  You named one reason, though.
