FAU Classless Fans

I posted this in another thread, but it seems the conversation has moved here, so i'll repost…

Here we go with this again….we're classless during a road game, ULM was classless here, blah blah blah. It happens every time a home team loses. It's meaningless message board talk from fans after a tough loss. Give it a break already. Booing seniors at senior day? Ok, maybe you shouldn't do that, but if you have a large enough crowd, the small contingent of road fans shouldn't distract anyone. As for the injured player….if he was seriously hurt than I completely agree it is classless, but if you can get their best player out the game as a result of clean hits….that's football. You always have your idiots in every crowd, but in the end it is just noise by disappointed fans. I wasn't there, but I respect Troy and Omar and I think all of the other Owl diehards do as well. I look forward to seeing all of you next year at Lockhart…you can boo all you want and I promise that I won't complain!

I agree…the losing team always complains about the "classless" fans of the other team.  Get over it!

I am moving on the talk about New Orleans, gumbo, Blackened Voodoo beer and the Memphis Tigers.

GO OWLS!

Re: FAU Classless Fans

The senior thing is tacky, but more distrubing to me is the injury issue.

The cheering of a injured player is inexcusable.

As I said in thier thread, its one thing to cheer the hit and be happy that you may of taken away a potential weapon of thier arsenal. Its another to clap and cheer while the player is struggling to get up. We are a young fan base and have a lot to learn about ettiqute at a football game.

That being said Im glad our fan base was loud, just wish it would of been a lil more on target during this issue.

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

Re: FAU Classless Fans

I have a hard time believing fans were cheering because Omar was hurt.  Home team fans always get ultra sensitive when they lose.  But while FAU fans may be new to FAU football, they aren't new to life.  While I didn't witness the event first hand, I have seen it in the past at an FAU home game.  Fans get excited after a big hit.  Is it wrong to continue cheering when the guy is holding his ribs?  C'mon, this is college football, not the church league.  Those Troy fans who are complaining are bitter.  They were cocky and looked right past FAU.  For the rest of the Troy fans, you are some of the classiest fans in the Belt.  Good luck, your team deserves to play one more game this season!

Re: FAU Classless Fans

This is all open wound stuff.  I am sure if FAU fans could take it back they would, no one wants to see a player like Omar hurt.  For you to assume this is a representation of FAU, that's plain dumb.

As Smitty likes to toss around "remember these kids are 18 and 19 years old".

Re: FAU Classless Fans

Hey, classless fans come from everywhere.  It is a problem though, when there are so many they get themselves noticed.  I have seen classless fans as SEC games as well.  Tennessee and Mississippi are loaded with them.  In any event, winning with dignity means a heck of a lot more than out right stupidity expressed my drunken morons.

So I have a question?  Are Duke and UNC fans in basketball classless?  What about Ohio State LSU fans in football?  I don't think so,  this is not little league.  I agree profanity is one thing but yelling at the other team is part of the game.

Thanks Willy P.!!!!  Glad to see you here!

As for complaining about booing players……whine whine whine……GROW UP!!! Thats what happens when there are other fans there.

As for the injury….yah its wrong but i tell you what i was clapping my a$$ off when omar was down (2x) and when they showed him bleeding on the field.  I know its wrong but i am a FAN and if that makes me a "bad" Fan then i am proud to be bad and classless.  That was a major thing for our defense!

This is the making of a great rivarly…..and you know what i will be there in 2 years and cheering my head off….if any Troy fans have a problem i welcome you to travel down here and do the same……

As for a team with a worse record going bowling and not you……thats cause we are the CHAMPIONS!!!!  So suck it up and good luck next year without Omar!!!!!  Ur backup looked horrible!!!!

Re: FAU Classless Fans

I had the privilege to take 30 FAU students that rode on a bus for 12 hours to watch the Trojans get beat.  I was in the stands when we were cheering at their QB when he GOT HIT.  It was a great hit!  So we cheered, it was not mal intend or hoping he would get carried away.  As for cheering and being classless, IT IS A FOOTBALL GAME, in which our students (the football fans) are trying their best to learn how to heckle, most of these kids grew up watching UM, FSU, or UF which most of their fans are just as obnoxious.  The Trojan fans are weak, they are just sour because our one little section took over their entire stadium.

Re: FAU Classless Fans

I spoke with a very nice Troy fan this morning at the hotel as I was leaving. He congratulated us as well as saying we were very loud  ;D

I told him thank you and that I hoped we were not abnoxious, which he then stated - "No, he did not think so and not to worry because they were obnoxious as well ". He said their fans and team were flat for some reason. He wished us luck and said to do the SBC proud.

Yes, we were cheering when Omar went down the first time, but he was standing and then went down on a knee - it looked as though he was just taking a needed break and did not want to leave the game. Everyone at that point was going crazy because we were doing so well  - it was not like Omar was laid out on the field and we were not cheering because he was hurt although it did sound like it. Omar then pointed towards us as he was leaving the field - not sure how to take that gesture.

I missed the Senior intros so can't speak about that incidence. I am sure if Troy had won, nothing would have been said.

GO OWLS !!!

Re: FAU Classless Fans

Every School has a few, I happen to encounter one after the USF-FAU game, no big deal.  Most FAU fans were good sports.  I'm sure USF had a few fans acting like a-holes also, however, as long as the majority are well-behaved it shouldn'r be a problem.  Congrats Owls!
