FAU Football and the Civil Rights Movement

I'm sure you thought "What the…" when reading this post title, well believe me I thought it was interesting when coming up with it. My name is Jarrid Smith, FAU team member from 2003-2007. I've been a frequent visitor to this site, both when on the team and after. I thought I'd share this interesting insight into a past gameday experience with all of you. I hope you like what you read, and if not, remember it's just opinion.

Very Cool Jarrid,

I shared this with the UAB message board as well, since it sepaks to the value that college athletics (In either its fandom or participation) brings to people.

Will you be attneding the players dinner on October 14th?

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

Jarrid, you were a great player for the Owls! Thanks for your dedication and hard work. You definitely deserve to be part of the Former Owls dinner on Friday before the game.

Great piece Jarrid!  I also enjoyed watching you play and glad that you were part of the 2007 team that accomplished so much.

What was your major while at FAU; communications?

Re: FAU Football and the Civil Rights Movement

Great stuff and thanks for looking at football as something more than what happens between the lines. Those who are down on FAU football should read this and realize the value of the program beyond the win-loss column. Your story is a testament to how many men and women have had a chance to experience something beyond the boundaries of their own daily lives as a result of the FAU program whether it be as student athletes, working for or with the program, or as fans following FAU football. Great job Jarrid!!

GO OWLS!!!
