FAU Football Practice Report 8/11

Aug. 11, 2004

Florida Atlantic University's football team hit the field for the third consecutive day on Wednesday. It marked the first time the team wore helmets, pads and shorts. The Owls opened practice with special team drills, most notably rushing the punter before breaking down into positional drills. During wide receiver/defensive back drills, Brittney Tellis made an over the shoulder catch on a fade route on the left sideline. Later, Thomas Parker made a leaping catch from Danny Embick over Willie Hughley on the right sideline.

Both the offense and the defense shared the spotlight in 11-on-11 situational drills. Hughley started an early commotion by intercepting a Jared Allen pass and returning it through the offense before being taken down. Moments later, Allen shook off the interception and connected with Tellis on a 40-yard touchdown pass to the right endzone. Larry Taylor contributed with a diving catch on the right sideline, dragging his back foot through the grass to remain inbounds. The defense made itself known later, as Johnnie Sloan dropped Roosevelt Bynes behind the line of scrimmage for a 10-yard loss. Overall the defense forced three turnovers, including two forced fumbles.

The Owls return to practice Thursday, August 12 at 3:30 pm behind the Tom Oxley Center. Practice is free and open to the public.
