FAU Names Richard Lage New Defensive Tackles Coach

Florida Atlantic University has named Richard Lage as an assistant football coach. Lage will concentrate his efforts with the defensive tackles.

“We are delighted to have Richard as a part of the staff,” said Howard Schnellenberger, FAU’s head football coach. “He has experience and worked with Dale Williams, FAU’s offensive line Coach. Coach Lage has coached at every level and has a great deal of experience with the defensive tackles and the defensive side of the ball. He will also recruit the Jacksonville and south Georgia area.”

Lage has 18 years of coaching experience and was a four-year letter winner as a tight end at Villanova University. Lage most recently served as an assistant coach at Midwestern State University, where he helped lead the team to the Division II playoffs in 2009. Before taking the job at Midwestern State, Lage was the interim head coach and defensive coordinator at Chowan University from 2004-07. He also has served as an assistant coach at Elon University from 1999-2003, at Gardner-Webb University for two seasons, four seasons at Georgetown College and a season a Davidson College. Lage also was a graduate assistant at Wake Forest University and the University of Richmond.

“I am very excited to be a part of the FAU staff and have the opportunity to work for Coach Schnellenberger,” said Lage.

Lage will join the team for preseason preparation with the season opener scheduled for Thursday, September 2 at UAB.
