FAU not ready for stadium financing plan; but hopeful project remains on time

I think they should plant money trees on campus and harvest them.

Where do you all think $65M comes from, the sky?  Why do so many feel entitled to just have this kind of money bestowed on them as a fan?

Don't join the alumni association or donate any kind of money, that will help.  Take the money you save by not donating to FAU and buy a clue.

Building a $65M stadium is, by far, the most ambitious construction project attempted in FAU's history. However, what do you tell people who donated years ago with the expectation that a stadium would be finalized "within months" only to still see no action for years? How can anyone donate to the stadium with confidence?

Every official statement about the stadium has said that it's just around the corner. We were told for years that the Dome was a sure thing, and that it was worth the extra wait over a less expensive open stadium. We were told (in 2006 or 2007, I think) that it wasn't worth putting up a temporary stadium around the new track since we would only play in it for one season. We are all FAU's biggest supporters, but communication about the stadium has been abysmal.

Years ago, FAU unveiled a site for the Innovation Village with a page for naming opportunities, that has also remained unchanged: FAU - Stadium

Why should people consider significant donations to the stadium, when it keeps getting delayed?

Good points.  I think much of the communication has been from hearsay and not facts.  Not trying to defend anyone.  Donations should still be made to FAU.  That's how it works. Alumni donate to the university to advance the university in ways the university sees fit.  Donations should not be made for pure selfish reasons.

How many times have you donated to combat diseases.  You have donated to find a cure for cancer, but there is still no cure but yet you still donate.  Donate for things that are passionate to you, but do not expect anything.  But never stop donating to those things because you are frustrated.  That will never ever help the situation.

If you have donated to the stadium and the stadium never happens, well, maybe a student athlete gets an education and they are someone who would have never been able to get an education, that is  a valuable thing to do.

Yes, this is an ambitious project and no, money doesn't just grow on trees, but come on…We've been at this for a decade now.  Enough is enough.  Get the damn thing built already.  There have been so many stops and starts and delays…it's just very frustrating.

I think too many people got caught up in the "hype" in the early years.  Howard had to say things like "we are going to build a stadium," etc.  That is what builds interest and is required.  That's how these things get done.

I don't think anyone would argue that Louisville is a bigger program, has a much older legacy, and has a much larger budget.  Louisville could not get a stadium built in the 12 years that Howard was the coach.  If we get one in 11 years, it is absolutely huge.  The big money we thought existed in the Boca area has not come forward, but yet we will still get it done.

Do not under estimate how incredible our progress has been.  We like to compare ourselves with schools that have been around for twice as long.

Selective memory… Howard also said we would be competing for a National Championship by now as well, but no one is complaining about that.

I actually compare us to FIU.  If this doesn't get done for the home opener in 2011 Angelos needs to be fired.

Yup, here we go…..The "fau can do no wrong" crowd…..All you need to do is look at "Your next burrow will be completed in" sign that is still erected across the street from the fitness center to see the track record.  Don't get me wrong FAU has grown by leaps and bounds since I came here but seriously it's like a broken record when it comes to this damn stadium.

Actually I criticize FAU whenever they need it.  This isn't one of those times.  I also criticize fans that feel this entitlement because they buy a ticket and think they deserve something for nothing.  Business does not work that way.  If you make $40k a year, you don't buy a $4M home.  Its common sense.  There needs to be a plan and frankly, I am proud that my university wants to ensure fiscal responsibility before acting.  This will get done.  And we should all be thrilled it only took a decade, honestly.  We should be happy it happened at all.  To advance to where we have advanced in 10 years has never ever been done before.  There is a reason for that.  It is not easy.
With the budget we have, I am amazed we have accomplished most of what we have.

But whatever you do, don't give any money to FAU.  You spend $300 per year on the athletics program and you deserve a $65M stadium.

This post makes absolutely no sense.  First, you going to start telling people "you pay $1,500 a semester in tuition and you expect expensive buildings to take the class in?  Secondly, if this fan does spend $300 a year on the athletic program then yes he does have the right to have opinions and expectations regarding the athletics program.

You have a bottom line on what the average fan has to spend before having an opinion on having a stadium?  If I spend $2,000 a year can I complain about our incompentancies?

Re: FAU not ready for stadium financing plan; but hopeful project remains on time

FAU has been told construction must start in June for the Owls to play their 2011 home open on-campus. Angelos has not dismissed the idea that the stadium will not be ready until October or November of that season, forcing the Owls to play some home games at Lockhart Stadium.

In my opinion Angelos needs to be dismissed for not dismissing this idea.  Not ready to propose financing?  What in the world are they waiting for?  Can we just hire any of the AD's at any of the other Sun Belt schools so we can get a stadium like the rest of them have?

Re: FAU not ready for stadium financing plan; but hopeful project remains on time

I'm really sorry but this is just inexcusable.

FAU has REALLY bungled this stadium project.

NORTH TEXAS stadium was voted on a student fee increase late last year and they have started construction on thier stadium already. Something that wasnt even considered a year ago for them is now being built.

Yet FAU has had this on the "plan" for damn near a decade.

I will continue to buy my season tickets becuase I enjoy watching FAU play football but ANOTHER delay is just ridiculous. If this thing doesnt get started for real in June people need to be concerned about thier jobs.

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

Everyone is allowed their opinion.  My beef is with people that are going to withhold money as a form of punishment because the stadium isn't completed on their timeframe and without offering a clue as to how to get it done.  "Just get er done" is not a great financial plan.  Sorry.  The alumni association is not the unit that raises money for the stadium so the whole conversation was just silly.  That tells me that someone doesn't understand how the money is raised and yet criticize the entire process.

Opinions are great and be prepared to debate them.  It's not the amount of donation that allows for opinions, its the point of how does this opinion tie into raising the capital necessary to build a $65M stadium.  Revenues have to come from somewhere.  Donations are a part of it.  Withholding money to make a point will never be part of the solution.  No matter how you spin it.

As far as Angelos being fired…he got the dorm revenues tied into the financing of the stadium.  That is good revenue that most schools would have been selfish and not allowed.  Very creative in my opinion.
