As the Florida Atlantic's offense continues its steady climb up the national charts, coach Howard Schnellenberger praised the man he put in charge of the group last spring.

Schnellenberger credited the steady improvement to the smooth transition to new offensive coordinator Darryl Jackson, who spent his previous two seasons at FAU as the receivers coach.  He's taking on a personality of his own," Schnellenberger said.

The Owls' offense reached new heights during Saturday's 51-29 victory at Louisiana-Lafayette, gaining a school-record 624 yards. The performance was nearly flawless. FAU scored on eight of 12 series, including the final series of the game when it let time run out.

For the second consecutive game, the Owls' offense did not have a turnover and the offensive line did not allow a sack. Rusty Smith did not throw an interception for the third straight game.

At this time last year, Smith had 14 interceptions. He has three this season.

FAU is averaging 526 yards and 47.5 points the last two games compared to 384.5 yards and 18 points in the first four.

FAU is now 10th in the nation in total offense with 448.33 yards per game and the passing offense is 15th with 289.17 yards. Both are second in the Sun Belt.

Alfred Morris is eighth in the country, and leads the Sun Belt, in rushing with 117.5 yards per game and Chris Bonner leads the Sun Belt in receiving yards per game with 72.0. Smith is 16th nationally with 268.5 passing yards per game.

Noteworthy: Fullback Willie Rose did not practice Sunday and he will be evaluated on a daily basis after taking a blow to the head in the fourth quarter.

10th in the nation…wow.  If our defense was 80th or above we would be 4-2…maybe even 5-1 (South Carolina)
