FAU Picked to Go Winless in SunBelt Play by Sports Illustrated

Can any of the FIU fans who frequent this board please tell me why the Panthers are supposed to be this good this year? I just don't understand how a team can lose their starting QB and their best player and still be considered the best team in a conference. We may go winless this year (which I highly doubt), but I don't see how a team that was arguably better last year, come back and win every game this year.

I believe the College Football media has begun to fall in love with FIU as many did with the U in the past. They're the "sexy", fast team that is extremely overhyped and consistently disappoint. I just hope that hype dies down with their sideways move to the CUSA and we no longer have to be force-fed this nonsense.

Oh boy, here we go.
But in all seriousness, FIU does have a favorable schedule, but to say that they'll have a BETTER record than last year is totally asinine. Mario is hands down one of the best coaches in all of college football, but he can only do so much, just like how Pelini can only do so much with our team this year. This just goes to prove that the big national media outlets don't do ANY of their homework when it comes to the smaller conferences. And by the way, MTSU will surprise some people. They're too good of a program to be down in the dumps with us for this long.

Let's tone that down just a notch.

People who were consistently really, really good at predicting the outcomes of games would be working in Las Vegas -- or getting rich betting there. I try to view season projections in this context.

SI always puts out an awful preseason guide. Phil Steele's books are the best and most informative IMO.

Just answering the question, not getting into the quality (or lack of) of the prediction. Most of those who like FIU this season do so because of our D. 10 of 11 starters return to a D that was one of the best in the conference. In fact most of our 2 deep return on D. Our O line returns to again block for Rhodes, who ran for over 1K yds last season. We also return our kicker who probably scored more points than anyone else on the team.  Also, 2 of the 3 teams that were conference losses, we get them at home. WKU's D is very good, but ASU lost a lot from their conference winning D.

You are correct that the O is an unknown right now. Hugh loss in TY. Loss in the game management experience of Carol. New OC, new system going in. But with an experienced line and Rhodes, it should make the transition a little easier.

I'm canceling my subscription to SI today.  Clueless!  They couldn't even give us respect when we beat Memphis is New Orleans Bowl, Coach was 5 and 0 in bowl wins in 2007.  Then we win against Central Michigan and coach is 6 and 0 in bowl wins and nothing–no story.

The only story they have given us was a quarter of a page when we beat Hawaii.  I'm not upset, I just think they stink as a sports publication.  Any decent publication would of given us 2 to 3 Wins because of all the changes–the problem is that Holly still thinks everything is status-quo at FAU.  I guess you can say we have motivation to get the monkey off of our backs now  ;)
