FAU QB Smith downplays talk of NFL
Rusty Smith | Florida Atlantic, QB : 2010 NFL Draft Scout Player Profile
Odds are we will not be drafted, but hopefully he will get an invite to the NFL combine.

Not to add insult to injury, but I just checked Rusty's NFL scout page and his stock has dropped considerably since injuring his NON-throwing shoulder. Smith went from being rated 8th among senior QB's to 19th.

Odds are he wasn't going to be drafted before he hurt his non throwing shoulder

True. His performances against BCS teams are what they are - he tried his best - but why hasn't Rusty been able to improve his mobility in all his years here?
Is that such a crazy thing to ask?

The way I see it, if Rusty gets an invite to the combine, he's got a shot at being drafted. If he only attends Pro Days @ FAU. Expect to see Rusty in the CFL.

You're only as good as your teammates allow you to be. In the Texas game last year, FAU only had a total of like 40yrds rushing, forcing Rusty to keep throwing. If we had a decent running game, it would have opened the field up for Rusty to perform better. If Rusty was on an SEC team, do you his #'s would have been better?

If Rusty was on an SEC team his #'s would be better, he wouldn't have receivers dropping as many passes. Chances are if he's on an SEC team he's got a top 10 WR recruit, a top 10 RB recruit, and top 10 OL recruits blocking for him. You can't compare Rusty in the SBC, to Rusty in the SEC.
"You're only as good as your team is"… Well not in all cases, Look at Graham Harrel in Texas Tech. He had an outstanding season because he had Crabtree and he beat Texas and they got into a BCS bowl game. Yes they are in a BCS conference but Harrell was able to do it against big time teams like Missouri and Texas and he wasn't drafted.
Another case can be made for Colt Brennan. Broke all sorts of passing records while at Hawaii, his team I think went undefeated 1 year and he was drafted in the 6th round 186th overall by the Redskins and he's the 3rd string QB and I'd be surprised if he ever plays a down in the NFL. Joe Flacco, Steve McNair certainly didn't beat any top ranked teams in the nation in D-I and certainly didn't go to any BCS bowl games. Matt Cassel didn't even play a down in college but got drafted probably just because he went to USC.
Rusty can get drafted, I have no idea what some of these GM's have in mind when they make their picks. Honestly after the 3rd round it's a bit of a crap-shoot anyway
