Why do most UCF fans seem so threatened by FAU?  There are plenty of football players in the state for both teams.

Also someone said it's sad we need Sun Belt teams to come to C-USA. I can name 3 teams in the Sunbelt us included that would sure as hell have beaten Memphis. Only GOOD team in C-USA is UCF. Troy, MTSU, and FAU all would have beaten Memphis in MTSU's case again. Troy belonged in a bowl game a lot more then Memphis did.

I agree but not just Memphis, Troy could beat ANY C-USA team this year.
Troy was totally robed from a bowl game this year. The following teams went to a bowl without a winning record (6-6), and Troy is sitting at home, totally not fair:

Alabama (That was a real slap in the face to Troy…and Nick Satin no less)
California (Probably the only team on the list that deserves a bowl)
Colorado (Play Alabama in Independence Bowl…please)
Maryland (yes, it's the land of Mary's)
Nevada (who couldn't score a single point in it's bowl game against New Mexico..New Mexico!)
UCLA (Lost to Notre Dame…hello?)
and finally…Oklahoma State. Who Troy beat totally and convincingly. Tell me how that was fair NCAA?

Yeah I always said that the New Orleans Bowl would have actually made more sense with FAU/Troy.
And on the Liberty Bowl…please, Troy is much better than Miss State (7-5). So yea, Troy would have buried UCF, and any team in C-USA this year for that matter.

Re: FAU thread on CUSA Board

UCF fans view us like USF fans view UCF or, dare I say, how FAU and FIU fans view each other. We're all threatened by each others' programs. The FIFTH-place team from CUSA went to the same bowl as the CHAMPION of the SBC. They have more bowl tie-ins, a championship game, and a better television package. In terms of the quality of our teams we're about the same, but CUSA has more attractive TV markets. They are full for the foreseeable future, but I see eastern CUSA as a much better fit for large urban schools like FAU (and FIU).

What would make sense is to reorganize the SBC and CUSA into an eastern and western conference… but that won't happen.

p.s. The architect made a rendering of our proposed stadium for the BOT very quickly by modifying a model of UCF's stadium. That's obvious. No plans exist for the stadium and we currently have no idea what it will look like. All we know is that it will be a horseshoe shape with at least 30000 seats.

Re: FAU thread on CUSA Board

Troy definetly was deserving of a bowl bid. Getting another bowl affiliation should be priority #1, 2, and 3 for the Sun Belt this offseason. Can anyone actually make the argument that Nevada deserved its bid more than Troy? In fact, ULM would probably have given New Mexico a better game. I don't care which bowl it is, but the SBC needs at least two bowl games and quickly.

Well said, and I totally resented the slur on our academics! >:(

The guy that bashed the academidcs sounds like he doesn't know what he is talking about. He said HALF of the enrollment is a satellite campuses, all the buildings are connected by the breezeway. He claims to have taken classes at FAU. I don't believe him based upon his statements.

He also bashed our diversity- which as a white girl I resent. I had the real pleasure of going to school with quite a few students from South American countries. Their parents pay a premium to send their kids to school here, and the kids were darn grateful for the opportunity.

exactly! I have heard plenty of people who applied to FAU and couldn't get in so they go to UCF. We are raising our academics, maybe a while ago it was easier than other schools to get into FAU but that has all changed. I honestly haven't heard of a case where someone applied to FAU and UCF but got turned down by UCF so they came to FAU.

This guy was probably just saying that as another bash on FAU figuring most people don't know much about FAU and would believe him

Re: FAU thread on CUSA Board

Let's break down this RIDICULOUS statement by a typical UCF fan.

"- Fan support. It doesn't exist. It won't exist. Boca is NOT Tampa or Orlando. It's a smaller town with rich people who could care less about football or sports. And, any actual allegiance to a team goes to Miami.

Need I remind them before their stadium.. NO ONE SHOWED up to their games either. In programs like Louisville they were giving tickets away with every fill up on gas. Even USF didn't get anyone at their games until they started winning.

He's right Boca is NOT Tampa or Orlando… it's better! There a lot more wealthy people that live in Boca then in Tampa or Orlando even if they are from another school they may swing their allegiance to FAU especially if winning does a lot to the community which it will and they donate money to the school and the program. People seem to forget that we've been around for 7 years! People may not care about football yet but they will. Especially when more and more of us graduate from FAU and continue to live in the area and raise families in the area.

- Howard. He's done a good job, but he's old. Really old. When he leaves, the credibility of FAU's program may have left also. He is currently the only real selling point they have to recruits. When he leaves and they are still averaging 3,000 fans a game in the Sun Belt where will they be?"

This is probably one of the dumbest things I have ever read. I didn't think UCF fans were this dumb, guess I was wrong. "The only real selling point to recruits" So building a program from scratch, playing in an on campus stadium, helping be part of something special that's not a selling point? Or playing in bowl games, playing against defending national champions or teams like Texas and USF those aren't selling points?

"When he leaves and they are still averaging 3,000 fans a game in the Sun Belt where will they be?"

Hopefully the same place Bobby Bowden and Joe Paterno are after turning around their programs. Where was FSU before Bowden got there? Surely not as good as they were with him. Granted Howard won't be at FAU as long as those guys have been at their programs but I'm pretty confident Howard isn't going ANYWHERE until 1) He wants to and 2) He know someone else can come in, take over and not miss a beat. I'm willing to bet money that Howard will have a BIG say in who our next coach is. When Howard retires whenever that may be I'm sure he'll see to it we are not in the Sun Belt. If we are then so be it, it's still a better conference than C-USA.

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Re: FAU thread on CUSA Board

Funny to hear UCF talk about our basketball program….who won the last time they played us?  I think we spanked that @ss.  UCF is like a brother that grew up a few years ahead of his little brother and is now realizing the little brother is getting bigger and stronger.  I would love to play them in football right now, I bet we would be favorites in Vegas on that game and they know it.  Troy would work them as well.  I would go far as to say I dont know if CUSA is better than the SunBelt in football.  When UCF is your champion and you consider your conference to be good…trouble.  That fanbase thing WILL change right when that stadium gets put on campus.  Who wants to live in Orlando anyway…tourist town nowhere near the beach with a high crime rate…sounds terrible.

Teambeer is the most knowledgeable FAU sports fan I know, way smarter than me.

Re: FAU thread on CUSA Board

In terms of competition, CUSA is no better than SBC. Status, it has a little more. The SBC isn't very old is it?

The reason why Coach Schnellenberger quit Louisville is because their AD accepted an invitation to CUSA.  So their mistake was our benefit.
