FAU to play UM

These are perhaps deals that were in negotiations that had gone stagnant (Jarvis's contract for sure) while Craig awaited his fate- but they were closed pretty quickly once he left.

My money's on this explanation. I think certain issues were at an impasse with Craig and with him gone, Dawson got it done. For instance, maybe Angelos wanted Miami to pay more money a year - he was always seeking $1M guarantees (and I understand that) - and when Miami said we can only do $500K/game, we walked. Now Dawson steps in and says, you know what, "we'll take 500K/game, sure… as long as you come here."

That seems like a reasonable scenario to me of how it happened.

I agree that Angelos did some good things. That's absolutely undeniable. But when you pay someone $190k/year to do A,B,C,D and he only does A and B, at some point you have to say, "Hey, we're paying for the whole package and not getting it."

Was fundraising blood from a stone? We'll find out when the next AD is hired.

Re: FAU to play UM

We live in one of the most affluent areas in America I can't imagine there isn't money to be raised in this town, you've gotta have the right person doing it.

Even with little connection to FAU you have to think that there's a hedge fund manager that wants all of Boca to know he has the money to throw it on the stadium!  ;D

I'm sure they think it's an easy way to get a few thousand fans more into Sun Life for a tune up game….It would be nice to make them sweat it out..

I don't know if this was Melissa Dawson's doing, but if it was she's gotten done more in the last 3 weeks than Angelos did in 7 years or however long he was at FAU

YES!

Re: FAU to play UM

We need to get some home and home agreements with other Big 6 schools.  Focusing on schools in the Northeast would be a good move with many alumni down here from those schools (Syracuse, BC, Rutgers, etc)

FAU probably could have beat Illinois a few seasons ago. I am serious too.

Re: FAU to play UM

Could UM f*** us out of our home game?

According to the Sun Sentinel's beat reporter for UM, Miami is overbooked with non-con games in 2015.

The blog explains:

"With the addition of the series, which includes games between the teams in 2013, 2015 and 2016, the ‘Canes now currently have five non-conference games scheduled for 2015 – Toledo (Sept. 5), Nebraska (Sept. 19), at Memphis (Sept. 26), Cincinnati (Oct. 3) and at FAU (TBD).

That’s one non-conference game too many based on the current eight-game ACC schedule. It’s two over the limit based on the nine-game conference schedule the ACC will move to when Syracuse and Pittsburgh join in either 2013 or 2014.

A UM official said Tuesday that the school “won’t be commenting on anything on the schedule for a while because we won’t know our future schedule until the ACC begins defining the schedule for future years.”

I would hope if they're going to bump anyone it would be Memphis or Toledo… if for no other reason than travel costs.
