how about an at large bid? Since UF beat FSU badly (we put up more points than they did), and miami isnt bowling……any chance? or are we s.o.l. since we are looked at as a "weak" 6 win team
Not a chance. We don't have the prestige or fan base yet to get an at-large bid at 6-6..and i'm okay with that. The thing that pisses me off is that the conference USA secured auto-bids several years ago (when the conference was competitive and respectable)..but now that all of the good teams are no longer in that conference, they still get all of those bowl games and they aren't even worthy. We are a better conference than them! But..they steal all of the bowl games based on the past success of teams that aren't even associated with the conference anymore. OPEN YOUR EYES BOWL SELECTION COMMITTEE!!!
This is the next big project for the SBC commish. With WKU joining (an extra conference game each year) we should be able to produce at least two bowl-eligible teams every year. There doesn't seem to be too much interest in expanding the number of bowls available, so we'll have to see if any bowls change affiliations when their contracts are up.
FAU would be at the bottom of any at large bid since we have a (relatively) small fan base… for now.

Re: FAU/Troy to play Memphis
FAU's loss to ULM really hurts now. Had that game gone the Owls' way, there would have been a good chance for an at-large bid.
The SunBelt has become good enough to place two teams in bowls each year, and maybe even win them. Whether the media is intelligent enough to admit it or not, this is an improving conference.
They are going to want to upgrade the NOB - perhaps pairing the top 'Belt team with a higher ranking team from another conference or maybe even an SEC team. NOLA is a great venue and time. The game itself has to be upgraded now that the conference is gaining teams that can compete with and beat top tier mid-majors.

The SBC is improving but the overall problem is that 5 out of the 8 teams this year have losing records (MTSU 5-7, ASU 5-7, ULL 3-9, UNT 2-9, FIU 0-11)… which is hard to respect… and it's really six if you consider ULM at 6-6.
But we had three OOC wins this year and that looks good (it looked better before Minnesota stank up college football all year). Hopefully FAU will take down two OOC foes next year… and hopefully one of them is either Texas or Michigan State.

Yep. It doesn't even have to be an SEC team – Big Ten would be nice. Playing vs Ohio State would be great!!!!

Just food for thought… wouldn't it be interesting to see the best college football team play an NFL team?
To answer…
It would be massacre. The best college football team will have about 6 or 7 NFL-caliber players (and some of those would not start in the NFL). The worst NFL team (let's use the Dolphins as an example), has 50+ NFL-caliber players.

Also, of those 50+ players, 22 of them are starters. ;D

Awww, and then UF's feelings would be hurt when they got blown out!
Oh well.

I didn't mean to insinuate the top team in CUSA, but one of the better teams - not a team that has already been dispatched by middle-of-the-road SunBelt teams.
exactly…Memphis?!
give me a stinkin break…
BMarkey:
What's Mr Ho have to say lately about the CUSA breakup and realignment, anything??
You know, is it me? Feels like we should be playing Memphis Dec 1…and thenTroy in a bowl. :P
I'm just comparing the caliber of teams. In a logical world, that would probably make sense.
-Go Owls…Beat Troy!

He hasn't said anything lately. He has two or three active identities on the Troy board and he has been ripping at FAU this week. He does it to get reaction and he is successful. A few FAU posters on the Troy board have gone at him.
You have to take what he writes with a grain of … well … rice.
