FAU vs UM probably a 'no go' for 2009

I dont understand the hold up being not having a 1 and 1.  We are playing the game in our old HOME stadium.  The big deal here is not the money but the fan support.  This game will sell out and win us new fans.  We will be a veteran team at that point and will give UM more than they want to handle.  The USF game is the most fun I have ever had at a FAU sporting event because of the crowd, we need more game enviornments of that type and I think that is what we would get out of playing that game at Pro Player.  The publicity that game will bring (especially with a win) would be worth more than $900,000…it would be priceless.  Angelos is wrong on this one.

Walters, I 100% agree with you.

2009 we won't be in the big east, by then, so i am in the minority… i don't want that game yet

until we have BCS caliber recruits playing for us… no way

Why not?? It will mean more if we pull the upset when we don't have the BCS caliber recruits. A win against UM would help FAU to sign some of those kids. Maybe steal a few from UM and a few others from non-Florida BCS schools. I really think it makes more sense now rather than later.

Both teams should be better in 2009, but I don't think UM will turn the corner by then. They still have a way to go. It is a long way off, but I could see FAU having more wins than UM in 2009. Not by many, but a few more. Heck, FAU did better this year.

Easy now… Miami will be better as well.  Saying we'd beat them 2 years from now is ridiculous.

with all due respect that is still out to the jury…still havent seen enough of Randy to qualify him as a great or even good coach…recruiting is one thing, getting the team to play is another…

see Loiusville this year for example….tons of talent (leftover) and they flop……

I still am troubled by the decision to pass on the Miami game for 2008. Here's a chance to play an (almost) perennial Top 25 team without having to get on a plane, and at a stadium the Owls know well, all within easy range of the home folks. I would think it would be competitive, and I think it would be very attractive for fans, as well as media. Is it too late to reconsider?

If I'm not mistaken, FIU didn't get paid much to play Miami. "Much" meaning the amounts we have seen paid out by Big 10 and SEC schools. I think it was a modest amount. I'm not sure what it was.

They way FAU is progressing and the way Miami has lost ground, this WOULD NOT be considered a body bag game.

Angelos is trying to keep the budget balanced, I know, but imagine what a victory against Miami would do to FAU's recruiting efforts in So Florida. I know Howard would like to play Miami. It seems like Angelos should put his thinking cap on and come up with a way to play Miami and find a way to make up for the small payout. Thats why he's getting paid the big bucks!  I think everyone would agree that the media would be all over this, especially if FAU continues to do well in 2008 and 2009. A nationaly televised game wouldn't be out of the question if it is marketed properly. Howard, with the team he started from scratch, shows up to play the team he lifted from mediocrity to win a national championship.
