Re: FAU Watch Parties
1. Should we have a watch party if the game is on "regular cable?" i.e. ESPN2, ESPNU, CSS? (my thought is that if people can watch the game in their home, why go to a restaurant and spend money, other than to be with fellow fans?)
2. Should people pay to be part of the watch party, but receive appetizers? Or should it be free, and everyone pay on their own? (My two schools of thought on this: pay to have people come, but give them value for attending [food]; or don't charge people to come, but then some restaurants won't let you reserve space since you can't "guarantee" a minimum).
Thoughts to provoke some conversation.

1.) Have "Official" watch parties for those games that cant be seen normaly. Pay Per View etc.
I agree Smitty, if I can watch it at home I will
2.) Dont charge, and have people by thier own food/drinks.
There is just too many tastes to make "free food" available to everyone. What I like (Consiting of mainly large amounts of cheese, bacon, and some sort of meat substance) is abhorent to others.
I guess you could do something like a 10 dollar cover and then give a free drink coupon. That way its cheaper then buying the game at home and I get a drink out of it which would entice others to come together.
Im curious, did the The Lodge and Wishing well do ok "finanically" on the Nebraska game since it was PPV? Both places looked crowded and Duffy's certainly was.

Re: FAU Watch Parties
I know if I went to a watch party for an FAU PPV game and it only cost me $5 plus whatever food/drinks I order, that's a lot better then spending $30 to watch at my house

I agree with Smitty. I think there should be a small cover for watch parties. Maybe like $5 or $10 but then you get free appetizers like finger foods. Free drinks would only work if it's free soft drinks soda, Iced-Tea, Lemonade. You don't want to be giving free drink coupons to 18 year olds even though I'm sure they'd greatly appreciate it.

Damn,
I keep forgetting about the underage drinking. Its been so long since I had to worry about it that It never factors in when I think of things regarding bars.

The Wishing Well made out very well for the Nebraska and South Carolina games. Problem with the other games is that you cannot order the games if you have satellite which is what most of these bars have.
I think the Well will probably have a party for the Michigan State game since it'll probably be on regular TV.

On the cover charge note, what about the people that are just going to the bar to hang out, unaware of the watch party?

Yeah, Jerry (the previous Well owner) called me frequently after the Nebraska turnout asking for us to do it again but unfortunately, the TV options didn't work out for them. I'm positive the bar put in a good deposit after that night, there was a great turnout and a lot of drinking.

That's tricky but I'd say still charge everyone $5 to get in. If the game is on at 4 and you show up from 3pm on I'd charge $5 to get in. If they want to leave I guess that's a chance you take but then they can also get the free appetizers or the free soft drink voucher for their $5 as well
