I don't think its got anything to do with not having a stadium until now. Look where UCF played until their stadium was built, Look at USF before the Big East. They still found ways to win and send guys to the NFL

They played off campus, but they played in NFL caliber stadiums. Not in Lockhart. There is a serious difference.

I am not saying that the stadium is the only reason because of course coaching has been horrendous. However, too many players have come and gone with the promise of a stadium never being realized. It only takes so long until unfulfilled promises catch up with a program in the recruiting department.

For those that say that FAU doesn't have the players; I don't buy it. FAU beat UAB, played well against MSU, and should be competitive in every SBC game. The problem is discipline more than anything and that is nothing new. Discipline is simple and it is the responsibility of the coaching staff. So well FAU might not be the most talented team from the perspective of players recruited, a lack of discipline can destroy even the most talented team. FAU simply cannot afford not be disciplined and expect to win games.

Re: FIRE HOWARD

I knew someone would post this. I have no problem with HS as the head coach now or next season, or for the first time we face Bama for that matter. What I do have a problem with is a subordinate coaching staff that can't seem to hold it together. Coach V has done a decent job working with the defense. I just wish we had seen the results earlier in the season. As for the rest of the staff, it is obvious that HS is our inaugural coach–he is the guy that built the thing from a bag of footballs to the stadium we will have on campus next season. Thats a pretty big achievement. I feel like no one has his back in that locker room.

Some of these coaches could make a huge impact by doing what they can and moving forward in a positive direction. However, I have a sinking feeling that they would rather stand back and watch it burn. When the bodies are on the ground they'll swoop in like vultures to pick at the carcasses, and some of them will apply for HS's job.

I'm not privvy to what goes on in the locker room, the practice field, or the sideline. But I do know that if the politics of the coaching profession are anything like the work atmosphere and personalities that I deal with on a daily basis than god help HS, and our program.

And this criticism is not directed at coach V.

Great post ProudOwl!

I too feel that we must clean house and bring in some big names to support Howard.  Ever since Nord left, we have quite frankly SUCKED!  Unfortunately small changes were made instead of bringing in new blood last year!  I'm sure that Howard is not sleeping at night knowing that he must clean house and make some solid moves for our future.

Howard:  Let's do it today–our season is done anyway!  It's time to make a statement and pick up some good people late in the season before someone else does!

Still proud to be an OWL!

Personally, I would rather keep Howard and FIRE a few ignorant so-called "fans."
being the worst team in the country must be ok with you FAU should be happy they have fans like me that actually care. Whether your FAU or UF losing should not be an option and if Howard is our coach next year it shows that losing is ok

It is your right to rip Howard if you deem it necessary but Howard up until this point was our best recruiting tool…Here are some of the things LSU uses to pull in recruits (Im assuming)

Home games in front of 100,000
Play in the SEC
Chance to go pro
Good education
If you believe what SI had in their last issue $$$$

and the list goes on we have Howard…we play in a state with 6 other teams and countless other BCS teams that come here to recruit people come here to play because they know of his legacy even FIU has a stadium a couple of good programs and its in Miami…Once again we have Howard…Once again you are free to bash him as you see fit perhaps it was my initial post that was out of line if it rubbed you the wrong way as that was not my intention.

I've always defended Howard but please explain how he is our best recruiting tool? These kids have NO IDEA who he is! Yeah they're parents MIGHT if they followed college football. It's not like Howard is bringing in 3 and 4 star recruits every season. We have never had a 4 star recruit and most of our recruits don't get stars and aren't found on rivals when doing a search.

If this was Howard at Louisville then yes he's our biggest recruiting tool. He won the championship with Miami in 1983, not 1 kid on this team was even born yet. Deandre Richardson who started at WR today was born in 1990, Dennis Erickson was coaching in 1990 and he was the defending National champion.

Recruiting is the issue, yeah maybe the stadium will help, who knows but to say Howard is our biggest recruiting tool would be way off base, or just very sad that our biggest recruiting tool has a roster full of walk-ons and 0 star players who were being recruited by Division II schools.
Once again why do you all assume recruits dont use google? You dont think they learn about their future coach prior to coming here? and they might be 2 star recruits but we are not the only ones who want them our advantage over other schools is a legendary coach…not playing in Lockhart, not getting a criminal justice degree, not playing in the belt its Howard.

Howard isn’t the main recruiting tool.

FAU is located in the heart of the best recruiting area in the nation, and we need to use that to our advantage. Every football program would love to have our location.

There are top high school teams all over the area, producing top flight talent.

Keeping that in mind, the efforts our staff has produced the past couple of years could be improved.

How hard could it be to sell a South Florida area recruit on playing time and a new stadium?

Re: FIRE HOWARD

I just think we don't need to fire HS to "not suck". I don't think HS is the main problem. I think assuming that the man has any delusions about his role in the whole scheme of things is frankly insulting to what he has achieved here and on his resume'.

I don't think he wants to be Joe Pa wheeled onto the football field, or stuffed in the press box. I don't think he wants to be blindsided like Bowden. The guy has always prefaced statements about his future with our program with in the context that he will stay until we are a top notch program, or until the powers that be feel its time for him to go. I think that is pretty humble.

I listen to the radio show with Lavicka on Thursdays, and yes the man can't remember his players names half the time. But he was that way when he coached for U of M. When he talks about football, its all still there. He needs back up pure and simple.

Re: FIRE HOWARD

For the record, I do not agree with those who wish to get rid of Coach Schnellenberger. He is not the problem here. And, just to be clear, I do not blindly support head coaches. For example, I think it's time for Colorado (where I also have season tickets) to get rid of its head coach, Dan Hawkins – and now, during the season. Hawkins is 19-37 (14-14 at home, 5-23 on the road). The once-proud Buffs are a disaster – and they move to the Pac 12 (nee Pac 10) next season. Yikes!

I think the thought process there is:

1. Ughh, finding a new coach sounds like work.
2. Even if we got a new coach, we couldn't pay them well so it probably wouldn't be a very good coach.
3. What if the new coach is worse than the current one?
4. Let's just keep the current coach and hope it gets better.
