This is the same school who has never fired our men's soccer coach after how many years of mediocrity?

I think the thought process there is:

1. Ughh, finding a new coach sounds like work.
2. Even if we got a new coach, we couldn't pay them well so it probably wouldn't be a very good coach.
3. What if the new coach is worse than the current one?
4. Let's just keep the current coach and hope it gets better.

Plus, aren't we supposed to be in a soccer hot bed?

I just think we don't need to fire HS to "not suck". I don't think HS is the main problem. I think assuming that the man has any delusions about his role in the whole scheme of things is frankly insulting to what he has achieved here and on his resume'.

I don't think he wants to be Joe Pa wheeled onto the football field, or stuffed in the press box. I don't think he wants to be blindsided like Bowden. The guy has always prefaced statements about his future with our program with in the context that he will stay until we are a top notch program, or until the powers that be feel its time for him to go. I think that is pretty humble.

I listen to the radio show with Lavicka on Thursdays, and yes the man can't remember his players names half the time. But he was that way when he coached for U of M. When he talks about football, its all still there. He needs back up pure and simple.

I agree. HS is not the problem as much as the assistant coaches. They are the ones that have the biggest impact on the players. HS oversees the process, but the groundwork is laid by the assistants and they are the ones that need to be preparing players for gameday. Not that HS isn't responsible, but my suspicion is that he isn't getting his hands dirty like he once did.

GO OWLS!!!

Personally, I would rather keep Howard and FIRE a few ignorant so-called "fans."

It really is amazing how FAU is the only football program in the US where some fans think the coach is not to blame for frankly being out coached every game and having a completely undisciplined team on the field week in and week out. There is probably no other coach in America who would have it this easy with such a poor display of football. And I'm not calling for Howard to be fired bc I know it would be a PR nightmare if that happened. But my goodness since when are people not "real fans" when criticizing the coach and staff for what is going on on the field? The coach always gets the blame - on every team and in every sport. That is what comes with the position. People really need to take off the blinders. Criticizing the obvious in no way makes anyone a "bad fan".

Re: FIRE HOWARD

As many have said before, I think we need to take a look at Angelos…..we suck across the board:

Men's soccer - 4-6-2, 1-2 MAC. 1-5 on the road
Women's soccer - 5-11, 4-5 SBC. 0-6 on the road
Volleyball - 10-14, 1-7 SBC. 3-6 on the road.

Pathetic.

Re: FIRE HOWARD

It should be noted we have 10 new starters on offense since last yrs opening day and our defense is much improved.

I am still trying to figure out how Angelos has made it this long. This was all talked about when I went to FAU - in the mid to late 90s!

Re: FIRE HOWARD

Between volleyball and the two soccers, assuming all three teams finish below .500 this season, since 2006 they've had THREE winning seasons.

Since 2006, volleyball is 45-89.

Is that good?  No.  Does anyone care?  Absoluetly not.

The reason there is never a change in those sports is because even if they did make a change and the teams were winning, nobody would even notice.

Well since as you say "nobody cares" then just get rid of all sports besides baseball, basketball and football, right? You will see that successful programs across the country put some emphasis on their entire athletic program. FAU though seems to enjoy mediocrity all the way around.

I didn't say to get rid of the other sports, but when you have as limited resources that FAU has, it's not shocking that sports that generate no money  get "ignored".  That is why the football stadium is so important.  If football starts to make money, the situation will improve for the other sports as well.
