Florida State vs. FAU in the works

Regardless, if our OOC schedule included UCF, FSU, UF, USF….plus a game against FIU in conference, we would have alot more people around campus going hmmm maybe I should go to the games. Even if they grew up UF or FSU fans I think alot would be brought into the fold, especially if we were doing well and it seemed plausible that we could win. If we were doing badly theyd probably root for the other team, but a sellout is a sellout right?
I think it's very possible in as little as 10 years to see consistent scheduling among the Florida teams, with each team playing at least 2 other in-state teams every year (with the possible exception of Florida only playing 1 in-state team). For instance, FAU playing FSU and FIU one year, UM and FIU the next year, and so forth.
That would be incredible because each fanbase could reasonably travel to watch the game. The furthest game would be, what, 8 hours from FIU to FSU? That's very doable, even if it's 4 hours on Friday night and then 4 hours on Saturday before the game.

You know, Bowden has been saying this series would be about adapting to the current gas crunch/economy crisis, inferring that games against in-state teams would be easier trips on the Athletic department's budget… but in reality, I bet it's because his Seminoles aren't doing as well as everyone expects them to be. Now he's feeling the pressure to ensure more 10 win seasons. He looks at us (as he would at FIU and UCF) as certain wins, giving him an opportunity to go out on a high note.
I don't think that's it. First of all, he probably will be gone by the time a game with FAU could be scheduled. I doubt he'll stay longer than 2010, which is when the Jimbo Fisher transition period supposedly ends, and maybe less than that depending on what Paterno decides to do at the end of this year.
Second, have you seen their upcoming schedules?

They have non-conference home-and-home series scheduled through 2015 with Florida, Colorado, BYU, Oklahoma and Air Force. Granted, they have started to add in a weaker OOC team each year, but that's largely a by-product of going to a 12-game schedule.

That would give us FSU, South Carolina, Nebraska and UAB. That's a great line-up.
Again, if it comes to fruition I hope it's a 2-for-1 or 3-for-1, with FSU coming here in 2011 or 2013.

Well, I go back to what I said earlier in the thread: Wouldn't that leave us with just four home games for 2009? Even if we could get FSU to play the first one down here in Dolphin, that would leave them with just five home games for next year, which clearly is not going to happen.
Could play them at a neutral field…like Jacksonville. I'll take that. FSU is doing that again this year with Colorado (I think they consider it a "home" game).

Yeah probably but I think FAU would agree to four home games if that meant the chance to play FSU. Wouldn't you?

But why would they play a neutral game against FAU in a year where they have only five confirmed home games? Even in Jax. They did it last year because it was Alabama and it was a big deal, being Bobby's boyhood team, growing up watching The Bear, blah blah blah. They couldn't agree on a home-and-home, so they opted for the single neutral site game. If they agree to play us in '09, I'm certain it will be in Tally or nowhere.
