Football schedule likely to be changed...

EDITED! Don't think this has been posted yet… I got a recent email:

Folks-

ESPN has notified us that they wish to televise two conference games next year involving FAU. This provides another great opportunity for our University to be showcase to the nation. However, the new schedule does impact Parent’s Weekend & Homecoming. Attached is the revised schedule for your review.

Thanks,

Dexter LaMont

Essentially, Troy and MTSU games will be moved to Tuesdays, specifically:
FAU at MTSU on ESPN at 6:30 CDT
Troy at FAU (Lockhart) on ESPN at 7:30 EDT

Here's the full proposed schedule:

TBD FAU FAN FEST FAU TRACK TBD EDT
SATURDAY, AUGUST 30 / TEXAS / AUSTIN, TX (T) / 12:00PM CDT
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 6 / ALABAMA-BIRMINGHAM / LOCKHART STADIUM (T) / 4:00PM EDT
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 13 / MICHIGAN STATE / EAST LANSING, MI (T) / 12:00PM EDT
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 20 / MINNESOTA / MINNEAPOLIS, MN (T) / 11:00AM CDT
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27 / OPEN
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30 / MIDDLE TENNESSEE STATE* / MURFREESBORO, TN (T) / (ESPN) 6:30 PM CDT
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 7 / TROY* / LOCKHART STADIUM (T) / (ESPN) 7:30PM EDT

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 18 / WESTERN KENTUCKY* / BOWLING GREEN, KY (T) / 4:00PM CDT
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 25 / LOUISIANA-MONROE* / MONROE, LA (T) / 4:00PM CDT
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 1 / OPEN
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 8 / NORTH TEXAS* / LOCKHART STADIUM (T) / 4:00PM EST
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 15 / LOUISIANA-LAFAYETTE* (HC) / LOCKHART STADIUM (T) / 4:00PM EDT
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 22 / ARKANSAS STATE* / JONESBORO, AR (T) / 6:00PM CST
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 29 / FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL* / DOLPHIN STADIUM (T) / 7:00PM EST
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 19 / NEW ORLEANS BOWL / NEW ORLEANS, LA (T) / 7:00PM CST

Both very good choices. Texas, Michigan State and, of course, the N.O. BOWL (if we're lucky enough to go again) should be televised as well, bringing the total up to 5 televised games this year. Not bad.

I like it. Usually they stick us on ESPN2 or ESPNU that no one gets. Good to see we'll be on ESPN

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Re: Football schedule likely to be changed...

i don't like it, first off i think lowly of tuesday or wednesday games…..thursday games i can take, not soo much friday……but then i think espn throws these games up there just to broadcast something while the mlb playoffs are running…..i just think lowly of the games its always lower conferences and i don't want FAU to be there…..than we have to deal with getting fans there against troy to support on a tuesday! when its already tough enough to get them out on a beautiful saturday when there is no school or work the next day……..ay yi yi…

Work or school the next day….blah, blah, blah…enough excuses!  I agree that being on a Tuesday is tough for attendance, but it's one game against a strong conference rival on National TV…suck it up Owls fans!  Given the amount of time we have to market this game, there should be reason that there isn't at least a good crowd there.

Re: Football schedule likely to be changed...

… Tough it up or whatever. Yeah, yeah…

But remember the average FAU fan is not on this board, does not really read the newspaper coverage and might see something for 10 seconds at the end of the newscast. Some FAU fans schedule weekend events to compete with Homecoming, for gosh sake!

Those are the people FAU MUST have in the stadium to build support and show bodies on TV. I'm afraid it won't happen on a Tuesday.

FAU is making it too hard to be a fan, and combined with poor marketing, this game could look mighty embarrassing on TV.

It's not just FAU. Did you ever with some of those weekday (especially Friday) games in recent years? UAB's stadium looked like only the cleaning crew was on hand; one North Texas game was more than three-quarters empty because the fans who even knew about the game were stuck in traffic between Denton and Dallas.

Only a few major teams have played on these nights and they have fans to spare, so angering a few only leaves room for others to attend. But when you don't have enough fans to begin with, inconveniencing those who do follow the team closely only hurts overall support in the long run.

TV is not worth it, and BTW, I predict the game will be on ESPN2, not ESPN.

Play it on Saturday and get Fox or one of the other smaller (yet in just as many homes) networks to show it.

Re: Football schedule likely to be changed...

Maybe I am wrong, but I think more students will go to the Tuesday night game than a saturday game.  In fact, I bet that game has the highest attendance of the season for us (except maybe the opener).

Teambeer is the most knowledgeable FAU sports fan I know, way smarter than me.
