Maybe I am wrong, but I think more students will go to the Tuesday night game than a saturday game.  In fact, I bet that game has the highest attendance of the season for us (except maybe the opener).

I agree. I think most people know the Troy game is a big deal.

Throw in the excitement of "come to the game and be on national TV!" and you can draw people who would usually be on the fence about attending a football game.

I wonder how many people Troy will bring? I also wonder if we can work it out so they all wear red and we wear blue…. call it "The Blue and Red Game"

Re: Football schedule likely to be changed...

Hopefully FAU markets this to thet students asap once school starts.

GET the students there, and hopefully enough regular fans will be there as well.

Now will it be blacked out locally? Cause if its not, then we are FUBAR'd

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

… Tough it up or whatever. Yeah, yeah…

But remember the average FAU fan is not on this board, does not really read the newspaper coverage and might see something for 10 seconds at the end of the newscast. Some FAU fans schedule weekend events to compete with Homecoming, for gosh sake!

Those are the people FAU MUST have in the stadium to build support and show bodies on TV. I'm afraid it won't happen on a Tuesday.

FAU is making it too hard to be a fan, and combined with poor marketing, this game could look mighty embarrassing on TV.

It's not just FAU. Did you ever with some of those weekday (especially Friday) games in recent years? UAB's stadium looked like only the cleaning crew was on hand; one North Texas game was more than three-quarters empty because the fans who even knew about the game were stuck in traffic between Denton and Dallas.

Only a few major teams have played on these nights and they have fans to spare, so angering a few only leaves room for others to attend. But when you don't have enough fans to begin with, inconveniencing those who do follow the team closely only hurts overall support in the long run.

TV is not worth it, and BTW, I predict the game will be on ESPN2, not ESPN.

Play it on Saturday and get Fox or one of the other smaller (yet in just as many homes) networks to show it.

Honestly after the success of last season if you don't know there's a football game coming up or going on then you must live under a rock or out of the state. Granted not everyone is going to be on this board but if a game is on ESPN family of networks they're going to promote it during other events. I know they have big banners that say football game today and what not. If you live on campus or around there area and have no idea there's not a football game then you must be clueless.

FAU hasn't done the greatest job in the world of marketing we all know that but I'd think people would know when there's a game, whether or not they show up is a different story

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Re: Football schedule likely to be changed...

I dont have a problem with moving one home game to a weeknight, but lets just hope they dont add more. The truth is they get more money from playing in front of an empty stadium on ESPN/ESPN2 than they would from playing in front of a sellout crowd on an untelevised game on Saturday.  Factor in the exposure for the program and I understand why they do it.  Since ESPN is never going to show two sunbelt teams playing on a Saturday when they could show a SEC or ACC game this is our only option for National TV.
The question was asked if the game would be blacked out locally-the answer is definitely not.

Re: Football schedule likely to be changed...

So what? ESPN is not the end-all of sports. Maybe Fox, Sunsports or some other network would show it on a Saturday, when people care and notice. Most people in Nevada, Minnesota and North Carolina won't watch to anyway.

Many people have referred to the money that is to be made, but remember how little FAU made from the bowl game (higher ratings)? I have never read an amount made by a mid-major school on one of these regular season games. But by the quality of the commercials aired at these times (not exactly prime-time products), it can't be much. ESPN is just filling a hole of time that otherwise would include a re-run or poker tourney. The network is dismissing the SunBelt (and a couple of other conferences) and we are just thanking it and begging for more.

The more garbage the SunBelt takes, the more ESPN will feed it. Just say "No".

If a tree falls in the woods and nobody sees it … It is really worthwhile "exposure' if the ratings are so low that nobody pays attention (Tuesday night!). Remember, ESPN does not promote these "lower" tier games and barely even promo'd the NOB. By the next Saturday, it will be forgotten. The Saturday before, it will be non-news.

Oh well.

Re: Football schedule likely to be changed...

I have experienced a number of these games from the Troy perspective. It's been disappointing.

I have not seen the game blacked out locally.

Don't count on much if any pre-game ESPN promotion. It doesn't happen. I have watched faithfully for a week before I saw almost nothing about the upcoming game. It's just filler for them.

Oh, USA Today runs a small fact box on the day of the game. Whoo-hoo!

Also, ESPN does not talk about the game before or after on SportsCenter, except for a few quick plays (if there's nothing bigger going on in some other sports that night, like baseball or some scandal or upcoming rivalry between "major" colleges). The it's gone and you see nothing more about that game. I think Troy got a bit of a bump for beating Missouri, but not much for destroying OSU.

And Troy could not even physically sell out the stadium for those games (Thursday and Friday). The place was packed but not completely full. Of course, the game started at 6:30 (many people were late), keeping anyone who couldn't get off work from attending (one- to several-hour drives for many); and on the Friday, a tropical storm (which delayed the game for more than 1.5 hours), as well as Friday night high school games, hurt.

But I have seen other games (namely UAB) that were so empty so could throw a boulder and not hit anyone.

Re: Football schedule likely to be changed...

More televised games that show good for the Sunbelt would hopefully lead to more bowl tie-ins.  I'll still try to travel to both of the TV games.

Re: Football schedule likely to be changed...

The key is "show good." Look at many SunBelt weekday games and you will see many more empty stands than full stands. That looks bad any way it's shown. That does not help bowl tie-ins.

Not all exposure is good.
