Grab your guns and bulletproof vests, we might be bowling in Detroit
It still hopes to find a Boise State-Ball State match of unbeatens in Dec. 26 Ford Field game.
David Goricki / The Detroit News
DETROIT – Motor City Bowl Executive Director Ken Hoffman will be working hard this week to get the matchup for the Dec. 26 game.
"It's about as clear as mud right now," Hoffman said Monday. "We're considering Ball State, Western Michigan and Central Michigan for the MAC teams. We're on hold with the other side since we won't know until the BCS bowls are announced (Sunday), and then there's the trickle-down effect.
"We won't have a Big Ten team if Ohio State's in a BCS bowl since there's only seven bowl eligible (in Big Ten) this year. Then, we have to look at an at-large team. If there's no Big Ten team we'll be looking at a team from the Big East, WAC or Sun Belt."
I know its a long shot but you never know….

And with this "trickle down effect…" does anyone know how the bowls are picked? Yes, we all know certain bowls have tie-ins, but for the bowls that aren't going to have their usual tie-ins (could be as many as a half dozen, right?) who goes first? Is it like a fantasy draft where all of them sit around in a smoke-filled room with candle light and fight for who wants what teams? Or do the bowls that happen chronologically first get to pick first?
If the chronological bowls get to pick first, the trickle down effect could certainly be put into high gear.
After the auto-tie ins get selected, the NO Bowl (assuming a Sun Belt team goes to a 'better' bowl), would go first because they are earlier than Motor City Bowl - then would come Motor City, Independence, Shreveport, etc.
If that's the case, I could definitely see FAU getting a bowl bid.

It really is a slap in the face to an undefeated Ball State team to be playing in the Motor City Bowl potentially against a 6-6 opponent be it FAU or some other team. I am all for FAU playing in a bowl game, but I don't like it from the perspective of Ball State.
GO OWLS!!!
Its a slap in the face to the MAC, not Ball State.

People need to get off the Ball State bandwagon. The slap in the face is the schedule they played.
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/teams/schedule?teamId=2050 Here is their schedule. 67% of the teams on it have LOSING records. They have no business being in a BCS bowl.
