Hang Over

What a tough week in has been in Owl Country, between the distraction of the UM/FIU brawl, leading into the most important game of this young program history, facing a conference opponent on a short week being played on national television.

We all knew the pressure was there and half the team responded, the special teams negated the good that was present on offense.

The running game was effective enough, yet the play calling did not allow it to become a major factor in the game. Most of us did not realize the problems facing the offensive coaches and what they had to deal with before the game. Namely the Jackson suspension & Paris injury leaving us short handed on the OL, we all knew the woes we hand at the WR prior to the game, which I wasn't as concerned about. I am sure this proved to be a challenge for the coaching staff, so maybe I was a little harsh in my criticism of the coaches, but it did reflect what I felt at the time, being a sideline coach from the stands is always easier, and fun, then being on the side line in the middle of the action.

I do feel for what the coaches had to deal with and propably threw a big monkey wrench in their original game plan. When you have to make adjustment on the fly, it like a coin flip, if it works you look like a genius and when it doesn't, you look like an the town idiot. All of our problems on offense does not lie on the coaches, they did what they felt was right, but the execution was horrible and that responsibility lies with the players. Considering what the OL went thru, they did a good enough job to allow the QB's to make something happen. You can't expect prefect conditions every time you go to battle and the QB's need to step up when the chips our down. Granted Clayton had a bad day and that happens, even our most herald players in Jared Allen had bad days. Finding consistency on offense was the key to us having successful season this year, I guess that is still a work in progress and will continue to be for the remainder of the season. At least now the coaches have more time to properly prepare the players which did prove to be a challenge for the ULL game.

The defense did what they had to do and played good enough to give this team a chance to win, especially with all the turnovers. Winning football starts with a great defense and if we are going to challenge for the SBC Championship then the defense will have to carry us. With the way the defense played the offense need to realize that they just need to be efficient, by not turning the ball over, protect the ball should be the theme of the offense. If we can do that then we have a chance at NO.

The defense played by far the best game so far this season, the question is, can they give us a repeat preformance or was this a one shot deal. If they continue to improve and play solid and physical like they did on Wednesday, then we are headed in the right direction and this team is showing it's maturity ahead of what was expected and those brutal OCC game experience is starting to pay divedend much sooner then expected.

I have recovered from my hangover of the tough loss and look forward to seeing this team rebound with a soild effort agaisnt ASU.

Go Owls!!

I think the team has a great chance of winning out. We lost by 6 to ULL and our offensive never even showed up. If our defense continues to play the way they did and the offense begins to put some points on the board, this team will be competetive in every game for the rest of season.

I hope that the loss isn't a big letdown and that the guys don't slip. The game proved that we can compete against anyone in the conference. If anything, as difficult as the loss was, the team should look at the positives. The offense did just about everything wrong and still had a chance to win the game on the last drive. That to me speaks volumes about what this team can do if they play their best. Let's go owls…one game at a time. GO OWLS!!!

You would think these guys would see the benefit of not doing stupid stuff. Especially when you see guys get thrown off the team and not just anybody big time play makers, key athlete's. It is stupid and it's hard enough you have key players out with injuries and you hope they can get back on the field in the shortest possible time. Then you have the idiots that really don't have a clue what they are in danger of throwing away. It really gets old and we were all kids and have done stupid things but at some point you grow up.

I commend Schnelly for sticking to his guns and if it doesn't mean enough to you especially after a couple of times. Then I agree no matter how much it hurts the team the player is suspended or dismissed from the team it sends a message to the rest of the players that this will not be tolerated. To many kids out there that really love the sport and want to play. You can't win championships with dumb asses.

Sorry Bytor didn't mean to go off in a tangent but after Hill and a couple of others it does tend to piss one off.

I agree, cut the fat. If players can't be responsible, get rid of them. Discipline is of utmost importance. GO OWLS!!!

I'm not going to pretend I know more about the Owls and football more than Howard Schnellenberger. If the O-line was the problem then thats what it was.

If he can get the O-line problems worked out by next Saturday, we should look good for the rest of the season. Pierre and Sanchez averaged 4+ yards per carry against ULL. Improving the blocking will only make it better. Hopefully some effective passing to balance the offense.

Talon, you never have to apologies for taking a crossroad now and then, you simply stated your mind and what was mentioned on another thread. It all good ;D

This team has shown much improvement and the YOUTH, that God awful word again, brings about a certain level of reality that this team will continue to make mistake and miss assigments, you hope however that they are to the minimum during anygiven game where they don't cost a game.

This was a winnable game without a doubt and the team will have to learn to win these type of games and they will.

The 2003 & 04 team certainly learned.

I hope they figure it out soon because it looks like every game is going to be a dog fight. I could see every game this season being won or lost by less than 10 points. Hopefully the Owls end up on top. GO OWLS!!!
