Not happy about the loss, but seriously, what did you really expect this year? What we need to see is improvement as the year goes on. This is pretty much the same team that went 1-11 last year. It's going to take Pelini time to get the players in that fit his system. He may or may not be the right guy for the job and for all I know, he isn't…..but you need to give him at least two years, not two games.

This is clearly not a talented football team. I watched the Akron-FIU game….Akron is not a good team but the talent level is several notches higher than what we have here. That's a disgrace, but that is the previous regime's fault, not Pelini. I'm probably grasping at straws for positives, but at least this year so far I see a team keeps fighting and is playing disciplined football for the most part. I could not say the same last year. The next two games are throwaways, but I hope to see improved play against N Texas at the end of the month.

+1, very good post!

I feel a lot of our problem so far is the Coaches having to learn this team and for many, this level and ghet comfortable and confident. Not just in the players but in themselves and their systems too.

C'mon Coaches, two more scrimages then the season begins. Cut 'em loose, let the guys play and get after the opposition right from the start. No more "feeling" them out. Strike hard and strike early!

Re: Hey Pelini?

As much as we hate to, we have to use  FIU and Cristobal as the example.  He took over the worst program in the country (just like Pelini).  He went 1-11 his first year and it took him until his fourth year to get then to a bowl.  You just have to accept that there is no quick fix here.  It's going to take a couple of seasons to fix the talent problem.  That's just reality.

The areas that this coaching staff CAN control, you can see vast improvement already.  The team is far more disciplined.  There have been far fewer penalties through the first 2 games.  The effort level has been much better so far.  Our recruiting has moved into this century….we have early commits and they do far seem to be of higher a talent level.

This year, roster-wise, is what it is, but there are signs of improvement.  It sucks right now, but patience will pay off.

+1 fauowls44. Now if we can limit the turnovers, and have the defense make plays, we be alright.

Re: Hey Pelini?

This was a great post. I am aware we need to rebuild and were not going to be great this year, but there certainly is concern about pelini and the coaching. They got OUT COACHED tonight. Period. They got out coached last week against wagner too. I know our players are barely D1 talent, but he is so caught up with execution, and is failing to work on his own faults of personel and game plan decisions. As a new head coach he has a learning curve to overcome as well. THROW THE F'N BALL in the first quarter!

+1, Guys, you are being very unrealistic. We should not expect Coach Pelini to turn this team around in two games. A more realistic approach for the fans and alumni, is to determine whether our team is showing improvement from game to game. I can honestly say that the offense has improved from the first game. Due to this improvement, Coach Pelini probably gave the bulk of his attention to the offense in practice last week. Although Wilbert has shown improvement from last year, he is unable to run the ball. Due to this lack of ability, the coaches are limited on the play calling (which is why they were depending on MGIII or Curtis to run the spread offense). Last week the defense played well, however, this week the they were horrible. I am pretty sure this week the coaches will work on fixing the defense. North Texas will definitely be a gauge on whether our team is making progress. The coaches are working with what they have and once key players are cleared to play and more talented recruits are added to the roster, we should definitely have a better team next year and the years ahead. Be patient OWLNATION!!

BTW: The video clip is hilarious…ROTFLMAO

Re: Hey Pelini?

Great news, we don't have to worry about Pelini getting hired away after going 10-2 this season.

After Nebraska's lost last night his brother might be looking for a new job. Do you think we can bring Bo in as defensive coordinator?  ;D

Re: Hey Pelini?

I hope people didn't figure this was going to be a quick turn around.

We do need to give CP time.

There is talent on this team, but unfortunately not enough and it's apparent that they are still some holes to be  filled.  But, I can say that it's not as painful watching this team as last season.  Now, that was painful.

I was questioning why M. Jackson didn't get a carry yesterday as well, but it seems that the coaches are still evaluating the players and what better way to do so then in game time situation.  As fans, its not a fun process, but a necessary one.  All we can do is see the progression as the season unfolds.  I would expect for the team to improve.

GW has been solid so far and the receivers also have shown some improvements from a year ago.  This is a team effort thought and there is definitely room to improve in all areas.  Breaks aren't going our way, but if this team continues to work and prepare hard every week, those breaks will start going their way.

Lets get through the next couple of games injury free and hopefully get ourselves ready for NT.
