How about the Dekolan James sighting!

Did anyone noticed that when Texas State was given one of the first downs in the second quarter and they brought out the chains that they never stretched the chain out all the way >:( I have proof on tape…… The chain was coiled at the other end and there was still some slack in it !!!!! Should have been FAU "FIRST DOWN" !!!

That's what I thought at first. You are correct that they didn't extend the chain all the way. I also noticed they did that during the Syracuse/FSU game.
I know that when they mark the chains, there is a little disc that extends the width of one of the field lines (every five yards, the thick white line). There is no slack, it just clips on to the chain where that solid line is. The way you mark the ball, is first make sure the disc is completely in the white line, hold it in place(with your foot) and have the other refs extend the chain out both ways. So, you really don't need to extend it out the other way…it just takes some getting used to when you're watching and cheering for your team.

I know about the downmarker disc too. It just looks legit to extend the chain completely both ways.
It avoids any discussions of "cheating" by officials.

Those late penalties on TexSt was very timely though.. ;D

Why dont they just make a 10 yard chain and tie it to 2 flags..... problem solved!

They have the 10yd chain, but since the teams don't always start 1st down on one of the markers. The disc is placed on the 10yd chain, they first mark the line of scrimmage with the back "flag", then extend the chain all the way, and put the disc on one of the yard lines.
