Unfortunately, I beg to differ. We had our best season ever in '07. Won the conference, beat Troy for the right to the N.O. Bowl. Next season starts and same story, fans just don't show up. Granted we didn't have the best season in the world the following year but we just won our bowl game, had 2 future NFL draft picks on the roster and no one showed up. I already know what you're rebuttal will be "We didn't have an on campus stadium" "Lockhart is a dump" While yes, that was mostly to blame it can't be the only reason fans don't show up.

Let's look at basketball, which is on campus. Granted, not as popular as football, but we just had the best season we've ever seen at this school. We enjoyed a nice long winning streak, the games were fun to watch and were exciting……..and no one showed up. More than in years past definitely but there times when school was in session where we had under a thousand people show up. Even the game on ESPN 2 wasn't as packed as it should've been.

You want people to show up? Start scheduling teams fans have heard about. If you ask a freshman to name the other teams in the Sunbelt they'd have no clue! Ask that same freshman to name all the schools in the AQ conferences and they'll go right through the list

I have to disagree student att. for Basketball games highest ever the end of the year for the conference games.
Also though it might not be a lot im att. did go up after the bowl just not  a lot because of lockhart  we need just need to win now a create fans for life.

Of course, people like free. However free for the students means money for the school and right now they don't have that money. Burdman & Co. do a great job with the T-Shirts (Just no BEAT shirts please lol) but with a limited budget there's only so much that can be done

It is and it isn't limited. From what I've seen, at the end of the (financial) year, SGA usually has a surplus of $30-40k. They're very, very conservative and then end up with a big pile of money they have to spend on SOMETHING or they lose it.

So they could be a little more adventurous if they wanted to during the semester.

In related news, SGA Prez Ayden Maher helped to allocate 22k for the construction of an "alumni statue" to be unveiled Oct. 13th by the Rec Center. I believe this will be the bronze Owsley statue.

Not sure if that unveiling would help bring in any more people than normal but it's worth mentioning on a flyer.

Attendance at basketball will continue to be high as long as Jarvis is coach.

Unless the loss of Royster's shot-blocking is debilitating to this team - and it might be - I predict we will "sell out" a few games this season. For instance, if we maintained the same average attendance as last season (~1000 people) and half or more of IVA shows up for games, that could pack the house.
