Howard Argument Thread

Post

Howard is the number one reason we all are talking about FAU football. He took us from zero to D-1 at record speed. Now we need to steadily improve.  Thanks for understanding.

Strange to see with 21 days till kick off, we are counting down the wins and we are in 2009. Goes to show us how this program has struggled in recent years. Some schools get 21 wins in two seasons.

I mean we had a head coach who wouldn't even make home visits the last few years and  him stick around.
7 years later and well….

Pelini had NOTHING to do with current situation.  8 seniors from his recruiting class has nothing to do with the current state.  #fire shane

When did I say he didn't?
Again you create stories in your head.
I'm sorry you a coach apologist and never want them to own up to anything! Nobody can deny that Howard sunk this program for the last 2-3 years of his tenure.

And I will keep bringing it back up until we start winning or you guys don't wine and pretend like Howard didn't do anything wrong, he's not a god!
I mean this is the guy that thought a high end steak restaurant would work off 20th….

You must be the type of person that just makes excusws all day.
You're also a complete p***y for useing my name and calling me out for "behavior" when you hide behind a guest name.

Shane, Shane, Shane get a grip!  There is a difference between apologist and understanding what the man has done for this University and the South Florida region.  Whacko dogmatic people like you wouldn't exist if it weren't for Howard and what he did with the Dolphins and the Miami Hurricanes and then FAU.  No one denies that Howard had a rough end to his career.  But a reasonable person would realize without Howard and his will and unwavering optimism this program doesn't exist or quite possibly between 2007 and 2011 the program could have been shuttered.  What Howard did with getting this stadium built was pretty much guarantee that football will not be mothballed for at least 25 years.  And if you can't see why it was the RIGHT thing to do to let him finish his career in a stadium he built shame on you.  For anyone to blame the current situation on Howard is a loon.  Howard has more to do right now with our possible great future than anyone employed at the school until possibly the academic center is complete to full vision.  At a certain point you forget about a persons flaws and failures and you remember what they did and not what they didn't do.  #fire shane

Here is why I hold Howard in such high regard:

Imagine going to FAU when football was not even a thought. Basketball was division II.  Athletics is a huge part of the foundation of the pride you get from your alma mater. Some of us graduated from FAU without ever experiencing that feeling of pride from a team.

I was certainly proud of being a FAU grad but never experienced that thrill of victory while at FAU.

Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think we would have a football team or an on campus stadium. Never once thought about being in a Bowl game or playing football against the likes of the Florida Gators or the Miami Hurricanes.  Never ever.

...and then one day years after I graduated from FAU, Howard Schnellenberger (with President Cantonese) was on the campus at my alma mater talking about the feasibility of having a football team.  They decided they would think about a move forward if they could raise $5M in seed money to get the ball rolling.  Most of the money (if not all of it) came in due to the presence of Howard Schnellenberger being the face of FAU football.  There was no Oxley building.  There were no practice fields yet. That area was just a big field of grass.

The entire football program was sitting in that field in a trailer.  And for a couple of years you went into that trailer and donated money and you committed to season tickets and you talked to Howard Schnellenberger and you started to develop your wildest of dreams like having a football team and having an on campus stadium. You dreamed about crazy things like playing in a bowl game and playing the likes of the Florida Gators and the Miami Hurricanes.

You started to have that huge pride in your alma mater in a way that was never there before.  And you knew that through that whole process, it was happening because of Howard Schellenberger and that his dream was now your dream.

Maybe since you have that connection you appreciate it more, but that fact is just as quickly as he built the program he set it back drastically.
Why wasn't a proper transition set up his final three years?
You could have hired someone and Howard could have practically been a figurehead  head coach while the other person ran the team and everyone could have won.
Because of those years of losing we almost didn't even get invited to C-USA remember FIU was picked before us because at the time they were winning bowl games.
We only got in months later because C-USA lost more teams.
Just imagine where this fan base and program could be right now if we had 4-5 bowls game apperences mixed in while we were at the new stadium.
Once Howard wasn't even going in home with players he should have step down.
At that point you are just stealing money from the university and not giving the kids who are on the team the best you can give.
Howard my have built the car but it doesn't mean you can't crash it either.

A transition wasn't set up because that takes money.  Howard didn't make nearly as much as Pelini did.  The financial investment didn't happen until Howard retured.  The end of Howard was more financial constraint than him not doing the job.  If you were an Alabama fan and you spoke about Bear Bryant the way you speak about Howard you would be deemed a moron, oh yeah.

I think I called you Shane.  We have given facts that you choose to ignore because they undermine your thesis.
