He also recruited well, has a lot of local connections, and ran a clean program.  It's possible he has learned from the mistakes he made at UM. I would definately give him a look.

IMHO He ran a VERY good clean program, A winning program.

It just wasnt as good as UM folks wanted. They want LOTS of wins at ANY cost. Randy gave them wins with 0 cost. He could still recruit well down here and probably run the table in the 'Belt.

The AQ pressure is huge and can swallow up all the good things you do.

Id be fine with him. The question is do we have enough "jack" in the coffers to get him, leach or others to come. UNT is paying thier head coach 500K this year. FIU just inked Cristobal to something similar. FAU will find a way to come up with the flow. Hell, they might just take the Magic Jack profits and pour that into a new coach.

A guy with a record like Shannon's in the ACC would dominate the SBC, and that should be our goal.  Domintating our conference will give people a legitamite reason for thinking about us at expansion time.

P.S. Not a fan of Shannon's at all, but I wanted to make that point.

Not a big Shannon fan myself but he did do a good job having a winning record while cleaning up the program from it's "ghetto punk" days and got shafted by UM for doing what they claimed they wanted.
My vote is 100% for Leach. Briong his style and offense to FAU and the Belt and we will sell out every game and make watching Golden's boring Canes a thing of the past. I beleive we would become the east coast Boise with him!
But first and foremost, thanks for everything you did in bringing this program and campus to life Coach S! Classy move to let it grow into the future.

I figured thats what he'd do, and it's a great move.  Did he give any thoughts or speculation on a replacement?

I always felt that after coaching, he stay with the program in some capacity.

What about hip surgery? Will he be on the sidelines for the first half of the year? How's Beverlee taking this? I need to know!

I didn't hear a word about health issues.  Beverlee will be the assistant ambassador (as Howard stated).

Without saying Bowden's name, you knew he did not want to go out like that.

This is about the best possible scenario for a tough issue that could happen.

We keep the legend around and can get a younger coach.

No mention of new coach.  Angelos said nothing would be announced until Howard is finished.  Howard said he would help with that if asked.
