Little bit off there.

Sorry to hear your grandfather's story involved a prolonged recovery, but that is exactly what it was - prolonged.

I have read many other accounts that put the average at up to 2 weeks for walker, and up to six weeks for cane…

Re: Howard Calls a Press Conference

Howard was at his office today, standing on the balcony watching the practice…5 DAYS after a hip replacement???? Cmon, he had to have just gotten it scoped right? That's insane if he had full replacement and is that freaking manly. I know he played football in a leather helmet and all but that's crazy. No one is that tough!

Re: Howard Calls a Press Conference

Can't keep a good man down, and glad to hear ;D

On a side note:

Read about a new procedure they have now called "minimally invasive hip replacement."

It's not for everyone, and you do have to fit a certain amount of criterion to qualify, but it is head and shoulders above the old fashioned method.

Good thing we do keep getting better at medicine in this country, despite some attempts to derail the free-market side of things.

If traditional replacement, and for the NORMAL man:

Walker for up to two weeks, cane therafter…@ six weeks 80% recovered.

But, as we all know very well, HS is NOT the normal man…he's a man's man:

Uses gasoline for mouthwash…flosses with barbed wire…shaves with a machete.

Get better fast Coach!

Little bit off there.  My grandfather who is 78 just had both hips replaced and he is in tip-top shape (runs 3 miles a day and swims for an hour).  He was in the hospital for about 4 days.  After that, he was sent to rehab and that took 6 weeks.  Now he is on a cane but still not 100%.  They pretty much told him his days of running are over.

Some Orthopedic surgeons start PT the day of hip surgery, and others wait till the next day, but either way you are standing within a day or two.  How far you can walk is another story.  Stay in the hospital for a few days, to make sure no immediate complications (bleeding, site infection, or blood clots) and then to an inpatient rehab center normally.

"The Dolphins use theirs to cool off in," he said. Adding that a practice bubble was "for people with so much money they don't know what to do with it."
