Howard has to ...

Well its still premature to call for his head. Who's to say the next guy will be any better? You're gonna have to take a chance on an unproven guy. An established guy would end up prolly taking a bigger job.

I think we'd look at the 1-AA or D2 ranks, a Chris Hatcher (Georgia Southern) or somebody like that.  Obviously we're not going to poach a top name.

Re: Howard has to go

We all know that without him we wouldn't be here and thats the bottom line, but I am starting to think that he's changed and he's losing his touch. I saw him on a local station after the loss to Michigan st and he said that we still had a chance to go to BCS bowl if we win our remaining games. I love Coach, but come on! There's no way that would have happened. Also the comments before Texas and other stuff too. I don't see why we aren't using Rose as much. I mean, he was a HUGE part of our offense last year, and this year he's barely on the field, and when he is on the field, he's usually making plays! I love Coach and what he's done for this program, but I think maybe HE needs a reality check. And we need to figure out a way to stop the spread offense. Coach seems to be ignorant of it and refuses to do anything about it, it seems. That has to be touch on our D when they face a pro-style offense all week long and all year then have to work on defending against the spread. I'm not giving up on Coach, but I do think that something needs to change. You can't with the conference every year, sometimes you have to go backwards before you can go further ahead. Like I said, I'm not giving up hope, but my confidence in the coaching staff is a little shaky.

I think it's becoming clear that he can't take us to the next level the way he did with Miami and Louisville.  If there was any year, this was it.

He isn't the one dropping passes, fumbling on the one yard line and getting called for stupid penalties. Maybe your expectations (and mine) are set a little too high for this group.  Maybe they played WAY over their heads last year.  Maybe this isn't the team that will take it to the next level.  I am a fan of FAU and always will be.  It's not the time to jump off the bandwagon (and join Exit 39) or to call out Coach for anything at this point.

Re: Howard has to go

who calls the plays on offense...Howard or Gary Nord?

Re: Howard has to go

Nord does.

Our team is so undisciplined it's shocking. We've been dropping balls in the red zone all season, I'd love to know how many points we've left on the board this year because of things like that. Rusty Smith is Nord's "golden boy" and he's making some huge mistakes, I saw him throw to his 3rd option ONCE last night, he never checks off, and makes a freaking 30 yard throw off his back foot.

The players aren't executing, they couldn't finish a piss right now…that's a coaching problem. (I'm not calling for Howard's head right now though…I would like Gary Nord to impress me sometime soon though, our O playbook is a disgrace)

Re: Howard has to go

I think it is a little early to call for Howard's head.  We are not living up to the expectations, but I think it comes down to discipline.  This year it seems like we are just sloppy, Rusty is throwing bad, off balance passes, and we are getting very blatant personal fouls.  That is not our style, Rusty was a sharpshooter last year, and we were never the team to "Play dirty", but for some reason we are this year.  Maybe HS is out of touch with the players and not disciplining them, maybe not, I'm not a coach, but something drastic changed, becasue it wasn't the team.  This is starting to remind me of FSU's last couple seasons.

And FAU was not outplayed at all, look at the stats, we should have owned MTSU.  I wish I could say that we were, but stats don't lie.  It's the curse of ESPN, like I said yesterday.

Yep, we were not even close to being outplayed.  Rusty has not been executing….he has Brett Favre syndrome, just huck it in there as hard as you can and hope for the best.  He needs to start checking down to the flats (Willie Rose) and stop staring down receivers and throwing into double/triple coverage….if he is not humbled enough to check down yet….bench him.

Teambeer is the most knowledgeable FAU sports fan I know, way smarter than me.

Re: Howard has to go

Lets, not blame Howard it is the players that are making the mistakes and one coach not making the right calls.  Rusty doesn't have his game on this year, I'd said it all year when someone is not having a good game send in the second guy!  Most of the time it humbles the 1st stringer and sets his mind right!!!  I say send in Van Camp!!!!!!

Re: Howard has to go

Howard built this program and for that I have no problem with him representing us on the sidelines as a figure head (similar to Bowden).  It is the coordinators that call the plays and coach/direct the players.  When the MTSU player called for a fair catch and the guy popped him anyway and they went to the sideline shot the special teams coordinator should have been in his face.  I think these guys need a little more "tough love" and less coddling because they believe their own hype.

Re: Howard has to go

this team is joke every way you look at it. one touchdown in three games, stupid penalites, awful play calling, bad reads. if MTSU was a descent team we would've gotten spanked last night. there an awful football team.

if we were descent at all we could've just thrown to the tight end all night across the middle, they rushed 6,7 guys every play, we would've burned them for 15/20 yards non-stop.

this team sucks and there's nothing positive coming out of it.
