Howard has to ...

Where are the Sebastian Janikowski's of the world??? Warley can't kick the ball deeper than the 10!

Janikowski (albeit completely hopped up on pills) was able to boom the ball through the endzone, no chance of a runback there! Why can't we get a middle aged pro soccer player that wants to come to college?

Re: Howard has to go

I think Howard Schnellenberger is the heart and soul of the program. I support him without question. However, I cannot say the same for some of the assistants. I know the loyalty factor is at play. But at times, a boss has to make these very tough decisions. It is very uncommon to see an assistant canned during a season. But a change in responsibilities is a tad more common. That said, the truth of the matter is that coaches cannot throw the ball, catch the ball, run the ball or play defense. They can, however, make it clear that discipline (no more utterly stupid penalties) will be enforced and that drops, etc., are not tolerated. That's what the bench is for.

Did you ever think you may have just gotten outplayed?

4 turnovers……any team has a shot to beat you at that point….

Re: Howard has to go

YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!!!..Now I see why everbody thinks South Florida is nothing but a bunch of bandwagon jumpers. Have you guys lost your freaking minds? What Howard has forgotten most coaches still have not even learned. Have you ever heard the saying…"You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink" Howard has done everything possible to get these guys up for this season, but they got SOFT after last season. There is definitely something going on in the minds that has taken away their focus, but it is 100% NOT the lack of leadership on Howard's part…If my memory serves me correctly, a lot of you were calling for Rusty's head 2 years ago and then all of a sudden, you thought he was the best ever. If we want these guys to start playing better, maybe we should look at ourselves and start giving them support whether they win or loose…Maybe, then these guys could focus more on football and not on what their supposed fans are thinking about them…

Agreed.  This thread was a total kneejerk reaction to the hail mary pass.  Howard was a genius in December but he's lost it now?  This team has problems right now, but Howard is not one of them.  The bottom line is the team went on the road and played well enough to win the game but lost on a play that works maybe 5% of the time?  Maybe less.  It shouldn't have happened, it was a terrible way to lose a winnable game, but it had nothing to do with Howard's ability to coach or run the program.

It wasn't his leg that told him to squib it…..(hint it wasn't his brain either)

Re: Howard has to go

This whole post is just a knee jerk reaction, due to built up frustration over the last few games.  If we beat Troy on Tues., a thread will pop up on Weds. stating the exact opposite of everything said in here.  Yes, this season is sucking, but everyone goes through unexplained bad years.  This season hurts a lot because last year we ended up doing great, and on paper there is no reason we should not be able to repeat our success.  I think luck played a lot into the middle of last season, there was a few SBC games that we were losing, and we magically pulled out the win.  That gave the team confidence at the end of the season to roll over memphis in the bowl.  As a program, we've hit our highest highs and lowest lows several times, but all within 8 years.  Compare that to some of the old SEC teams that have played 100 yrs of football.  They get to spread out winning seasons, losing seasons, and mediocre seasons over all that time.  We, on the other hand, remember everysingle down from our very first game since it is all soo recent.  Just my thoughts.

The coaching argument leads me to a question I have had for a while, since I've never played "organized"football.  What does a head coach (ex. Schnellenberger) actually do?  I mean you have lineman coaches, offensive coordinators, defensive coordinators, special teams coaches, I'm curious as to what he really does.  I don't mean any disrespect at all, I just don't know.  Maybe the answer to this question will tell us who we really need to be holding responsible for the team's play (besides the players).  We all agree that playcalling is atleast part of the problem, let's fix it.
