Howard predicting a win over Nebraska, didn't he learn from last season?

NU might have shown the character not to give up last year - The Owls did the same, staying in must game till late & the fact the we started 1-5 to finish the season 7-6 and winning their bowl game is a major testament of the character of this team.

The players could have easily have given up on the season after a 1-5 start.

Yep, I think most forget about the momentum this team is carrying in and what the leaders on this team have already been through.

This team did learn a bit of humility last season.

You're right, Bytor. The team learned last year that it couldn't – or at least shouldn't – believe its pre-season news clippings. The question is whether the offense will remember the lesson for this year when so many are saying they expect great things…. My hope is that Rusty, for whom I have great respect, can help keep everyone's feet on the ground. If he (or someone) can't, it'll be butts, not feet, on the ground (as in the first half of last season).

As for Coach Schnellenberger's comments re Nebraska: Those remarks are anything but a prediction of victory. He was pointing out all that would have to happen for the Owls to have a serious chance. The assertion that it was a prediction of victory strikes me as nothing but an attempt to stir an empty pot.

A little more than two weeks to go: We'll be in Lincoln, Neb., for the Owls game that Saturday night (Sept. 5), then drive 500 miles back to the Front Range of the Rockies for Colorado State at Colorado in Boulder Sunday night (Sept. 6). It should be a great weekend. Colorado, for those who don't know, has a truly great mascot: A live buffalo. About eight handlers have her (Ralphie) with chains as she gallops around the field before the game, stirring the expected excitement among the fans. So far, there have been no injuries. But buffaloes are powerful and huge beasts. If Ralfie decides to take a left, I don't care how many handlers are holding on; she'll go wherever she wants. I wouldn't want a front-row seat.

That's nothing, why do you think FAU can't have it's own live Owl mascot at the games? Because he would fly and peck everyones eyes out easily, which is way more dangerous… or it would just burrow on the 50 yard line and stop the game.  ;)

Do they sedate those animals at any point? I can't imagine PETA would allow it but I remember last year at Texas, thinking the giant steer that they have as a mascot seemed really mellow, and sad. He just laid in the grass during the whole game.

I agree that Bevo (the longhorn) did look sedated at the Texas game last year. Who knows? If Ralphie (the Buffaloes' buffalo) is sedated, it doesn't show – and I never have heard of it. As best I can determine, the animals are not mistreated. In any case, being a live mascot for a college game probably beats the dinner-table alternative for a longhorn or a buffalo.

Yeah, it does seem like a pretty good gig!

Though Uga doesn't look too happy during those hot early season games in Athens, they have to get a block of ice for him to sit on.

Maybe the steer is really a FAU fan because I felt the same way he did during that game.
