I totally agree that the coaching staff does have to be held accountable for a lot of what has gone wrong. To often this team does not look prepared for games and the players just seem lost out there with no real direction. Obviously the players have to be held accountable for what is going on on the field as well, but the coaching staff cannot get a pass.
2007 was great but it is in the past and there has been no building really from that year. We were supposed to dominate the Sunbelt in 08 but it didn't happen. Granted a mediocre 6-6 season somehow got us into a bowl, but we are seemingly just taking backwards steps from the NO bowl year. Hopefully the stadium will change things, but at this point it is just hope.
We have changed a lot of the staff this year. What i have been saying for months and months is that we have the same players on D that had a horrible year last year. We changed the DC, but that cannot change the players we have overnight. A lousy D cannot suddenly become a great D and I am amazed that people were expecting it.
We have no one on the O-line with experience. i have been saying for months and months that this is a huge problem. If the Florida Gators had no experience on their line, they would struggle despite having depth. The oline is very difficult to build quickly.
The biggest problem we have are fans that have ridiculous expectations without having a clue about the actual personnel we have. You know, people that come on here and never offer anything except saying we will go bowling because Lockley says so. That's our problem–not the staff. We were 5-7 last year and lost more talent than we gained. Why the surprise, seriously.
If that causes you to be done, then be done with it.
Done with the rant–thanks.

I don't blame the coaches for the dropped passes. I blame them for 7 yes 7!!! offsides penalties. I blame them for going for 1 instead of 2 when you're down by 5. Now it's only 1 game and in my opinion and unforgivable loss but the season isn't over. If we win outright in the belt then we go bowling. N. Texas probably will win 1 more game in the belt when they beat WKU. If we beat Troy and MTSU then we're golden.
I know it's a lot to ask for, especially with this defense but just try and stay optimistic
Great post. And to FAUOwl, I do agree that the personal is also to blame. Say what you want about "recruiting sites", but we are consitently ranked at the bottom of d1, and last year our recruiting class was ranked DEAD LAST in the nation by two reputable sites. It may be taking shape in what I am seeing on the field, especially on D. But the blame goes all the way around, and that includes the coaching staff. Because the same D and O Line got us through UAB and had a decent showing against MSU. There is no reason they couldn't get past UNT. But to see the same run scheme over and over again with no adjustment or sense of direction was unreal. Coaches, players…they all get the blame.
